Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is a leading international law firm with more than 900 lawyers in offices throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. We are currently seeking a Manager of Enterprise Applications in the Information Technology department, reporting to the Digital Workplace Director.
The role will reside in the Washington, DC office with hybrid work capabilities and will be responsible for the oversight and mentoring of the Enterprise Applications team who work to ensure that all enterprise applications are effective, highly available, and align with the business needs of the firm. The Manager of Enterprise Applications will also work closely with other Business Service teams that depend on technology to effectively deliver their respective work plans. The Manager of Enterprise Applications must be able to multitask, self-prioritize, work independently, and interact with large numbers of internal and external clients and stakeholders. The position will actively collaborate with, support and cross-train team members, and will draw on the services of outsourced vendors as appropriate.
**Key responsibilities of this position include : **
- Ensures results of Enterprise Applications team by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures.
- Maintains staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees; maintaining a safe and secure work environment; developing personal growth opportunities.
- Configure Microsoft Exchange Online, messaging and collaboration products and help firm wide IT with architectural reviews and network planning and design sessions, to be sure that all systems will work properly.
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on all Exchange matters related to performance, monitoring and integration with third party products.
- Strategically architect and design messaging systems as they relate to Exchange Online to include other integrated M365 products.
- Act as a SME for all Messaging, Document Management, Identity Management, and M365 products.
- Serve as part of third level escalation for vendor management, administration and process management such as change assignment activities, operational reports, service request fulfillment, capacity management, and problem and incident management.
- Lead and provide in-depth problem analysis, troubleshooting, and coordination and deliver resolutions as a second- or third-level subject matter technical specialist.
- Liaise and coordinate with vendors and outsourcing partners, helping ensure that work is delivered on-time, secure, and with the right quality aligned to the firm’s standards.
- Actively support the portfolio of Enterprise Applications by fielding incoming service desk tickets from end users to resolve application and software issues within servers, databases, and other mission-critical systems.
- Recommend, schedule, and perform software improvements, patches, or upgrades.
- Develop a thorough understanding of the business needs and priorities by developing strong relationships with end users in all roles.
- Develop and execute roadmaps that include enhancements to functions and integrations, regular maintenance such as upgrades and patches, training and supporting users in all roles.
- Developing test strategies, minimizing downtime due to planned and unplanned maintenance.
- Test fixes and perform post-resolution follow up to ensure issues have been adequately resolved.
- Assist in managing contracts and relationships with suppliers of the enterprise applications
- Support other technology team members in interdependent projects and tasks.
- Lead solution configuration and design through optimization of features, user experience, data governance, process efficiency and system performance.
- Ensure that the enterprise applications meet firm objectives; fulfill end-user requirements; identify and resolve business requirements issues.
- Gather, analyze, and define end-user requirements for data access and usability in accordance with business objectives.
Qualifications (Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent work experience.
- Experience working in a law firm preferred.
- Industry certifications: MCSA, MCSE in Messaging preferred.
- Strong experience in Microsoft Exchange On-Prem and Exchange Online, monitoring and reporting, end-to-end administration, SMTP, Internet mail and Active Directory in a corporate environment.
- A minimum of four years of experience in Identity Management systems such as Active Directory, ADFS, Group Policies, virtual directories, and strong authentication.
- Experience in M365 components such as Exchange Online, Teams, Entra ID, SharePoint Online, Power Platform.
- Knowledge of Proofpoint SPAM filtering, PowerShell, and ITIL/Service Management.
- Experience supporting document management systems: iManage, NetDocuments.
- Experience working in a multi-cultural environment and on virtual teams.
- Working technical knowledge of SQL.
- Superb interpersonal skills with the ability to assist users of various skill levels and backgrounds on technical systems and procedures
- Effective team collaborator with excellent oral and written communication skills; at ease leading meetings and training.
- Proven experience overseeing the direction, development, and implementation of enterprise technology solutions.
- Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
- Exposure to project-based work structures and working on project teams.

_The anticipated base salary range for this position in Washington, DC is $170,000 to $200,000. The actual salary offered will be based on several factors, including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, years of relevant experience, certifications or other professional licenses held, job-related knowledge and skills, business needs, and the location from which the work will be performed. Additionally, salary or hourly wages may be only part of the total compensation package, which may also include a full range of health and other insurance benefits, financial and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility), a discretionary bonus, and various paid time off benefits.
