    Position Overview:

    The Student Success Advisor is a full-time professional staff position within Student Life. The Success Advisor utilizes a case management approach to provide guidance and support to incoming first year and continuing students. The Success Advisor collaborates across the University with faculty and staff to provide “wrap-around” support to students who experience academic and personal challenges. This position reports to the Dean of Student Life and works proactively within a team to improve the persistence and graduation rates of Manchester University students.

    Essential job functions:

    Responsibilities include, but not limited to the following:

    • Monitor progress and support the success of students on caseload with check-ins, scheduled meetings or proactive outreach and communication, responding to students questions, concerns and needs
    • Proactively assist students with the development of plans to overcome academic challenges and explore alternatives to overcome barriers to persistence or graduation.
    • Assist with providing services to special student populations such as undeclared, student athletes, first generation, and transfer students.
    • Respond to flags raised by faculty and staff by coordinating student outreach and support services that connect students to available resources that promote academic and personal success
    • Assist students in the exploration and implementation of academic, personal, and career goals.
    • Work cooperatively and collaboratively within a team, the department, and campuses; and with faculty and staff to ensure the delivery of academic and support services to students
    • Monitor, track and measure student progress by utilizing available technology and tracking systems
    • Maintain a thorough understanding of all academic policies and procedures including institutional policies and federal and state regulations. Complies with applicable federal and state laws.
    • Identify opportunities and solutions that improve current student success approaches, and actively participate in the changes of a constantly evolving organization.
    • Promote student self-service tools during advising sessions and new student orientation.
    • Collaborate with Experience course faculty to develop college success skills
    • Participate in Student Life and University events, committees or working groups as requested
    • Participate in professional conferences and individual professional development
    • Assume other duties as assigned by the Dean of Student Life or Assistant Director of Advising

    Qualifications:

    • A commitment to fostering an environment of diversity and inclusion among students, faculty, and staff.
    • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
    • Must possess a strong student-focused outlook
    • Experience advocating for and supporting the academic, personal and professional needs of various student populations
    • Experience working directly with and presenting to students and families from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
    • High degree of computer proficiency required, including academic advising software, Microsoft suite, email capabilities, access student information systems.
    • Must be highly proficient in written communication for document composition and proofreading purposes and possess polished oral communication skills and telephone etiquette.
    • Professional appearance and the ability to interact effectively with persons at all organizational levels are essential.
    • Must be highly self-directed, well organized, detail oriented, and comfortable completing tasks with a minimum of direct supervision.
    • Must possess the ability to multitask and coordinate multiple office activities simultaneously while completing assigned tasks in an accurate and timely manner.
    • Confidentiality is a must.
    • Must be able to consistently present a positive attitude and contribute to a harmonious team environment.
    • Must be able to flex work schedule to meet occasional seasonal demands of workload.
    • The abilities to lift approximately 20 lbs.; hear and speak clearly; sit for up to 8 hours per day; and keyboard for extended periods are all essential qualifications for this position. **

    Work schedule: This is a full time exempt position. Forty (40) hours per week (8:00 A.M.-5:00 P.M. M-F) will be the general rule. However, depending on the project cycles and workflow demands of the department, additional hours or workday schedule changes may be required occasionally, including weekends
