    Purpose:

    • Build relationships rooted in trust and reciprocity with immigrants and farmworkers
    • Support and ensure community members overcome barriers they face in accessing the USDA Food and Farm Worker Relief Program through a partnership with the Pennsylvania Association of Sustainable Agriculture (Pasa).
    • Provide support and access with a focus on racial justice.
      • Will operate from a framework that understands how health and wellbeing are tied to housing, food, immigration status, employment, education, etc
    • Support direction of programming so that is developed and informed by the gathering and sharing of community feedback and ideas

    Outcomes:

    • Food and farmworkers feel welcome, heard and connected to resources and services. Mutual trust is built between Outreach staff and individuals receiving services, so that feedback is shared (with consent) with the team, appropriate local organizations, and institutions, etc.
    • Eligible food and farmworkers are supported in accessing and applying for the USDA Food and Farm Worker Relief Program.

    Responsibilities:

    • Prioritize and value community outreach as a core part of this work and of this role.

    • Lead with our values when supporting community members in equitably accessing the USDA Food and Farm Worker Relief Program.

    • Assist applicants in the process for relief payment by phone, in person, and online

    • Participate in collective monthly multi-day travel to mobile FFWR locations throughout the northeastern U.S.

    • Advocate when civil rights are violated.

    • Maintain confidentiality and protect all personal identifiable information.

    • Conduct outreach in ways that meet food and farmworkers where they are at (considers work schedules, frequency, literacy levels, preferred method of contact, etc.). Maintain connection and two-way communication.

    • Work closely with team members to ensure hardest-to-reach customers have access to relief payments

    • Co-plan/conduct outreach campaigns to share information, resources or community feedback

    • Create opportunities for people to share their needs, concerns, or feedback in one-on-one conversations. Share and implement.

    • Make referrals and/or facilitate the connection to organizations, institutions, etc.

    • Conduct specific outreach and share Pasa's program materials to food and farm workers to ensure access to relief payments, with a focus on the most impacted and vulnerable workers. Pasa will provide guidance and training on what can and cannot be communicated about the program.

    • Collect and report data as required by the USDA and PASA.

    • Make reasonable efforts to ensure accessibility by providing materials, communications, and interactions in the languages spoken in the communities within farm worker and farmworker networks.

    • Distribute USDA and PASA outreach materials.

    • Participate in trainings to enhance service delivery

    • Organize at least one in-person event in collaboration with PASA staff to assist applicants in person. Identify language needs and provide Pasa with advance notice appropriate to secure interpreter services and material translation prior to the event.

    • Collaborate with team leads to design, implement, and standardize logistics for mobile events

    • Gather and provide feedback on processes as well as feedback from the target communities throughout the grant period in order to increase efficiency in the project and ensure equitable measures are deployed. Pasa will incorporate this feedback into reports delivered to USDA-AMS.

    Collaboration and Supervision:

    Receives regular support and feedback from their supervisor.

    • This team operates in a horizontal leadership structure to emulate the decentralized distribution of power we want to build out in the communities we work with.
    • Our work is deeply collaborative, with community members and within our team. This is required when working alongside community members and in order to stretch our capacity to meet the vast needs at hand.
    • We check in regularly, over different methods including video or phone calls, written word, text, slack, and email.
    • Weekly check-ins to sense how we are all entering the space and what we might need, align on tasks for the week, ask for support or clarification questions, troubleshoot, and share feedback.
    • Monthly check-ins to discuss longer-term goals and outcomes.
    • Quarterly performance evaluations.

    Collaborates with community members, staff, partners. Examples include:

    • Share information and resources with staff (via slack, staff meetings, scheduled check-ins, etc.) to ensure that we are prepared as an organization to bring and share information with all community members.
    • Schedule and/or participate in seasonal and annual meetings with partner organizations to share feedback from community members about how they may better serve food and farmworkers.
    • Does not supervise any other roles.

    Qualifications and Hiring Information:

    • Values: Must demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to our mission and the values. Ideal candidates for this position will demonstrate experience that reflects a commitment to racial, economic, and social justice, especially with immigrants and farmworkers
    • Experience: Demonstrates experience in conducting community outreach (onsite, phone calls, messaging, etc.) and collaborating with other organizations and institutions to remove barriers and ensure equitable access to resources. Feels comfortable working with other organizations and, when needed, challenging institutions to equitably meet the needs of community members.
    • Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Bachelor's degree preferred, but not required.
    • Skills:
      • Empathetically listen to understand community member needs and follow their pace
      • Follow through on expectations agreed upon with community members
      • Ability to distill information about resources and services and share in a way that is understood and rooted in dignity and respect
      • Outreach via phone calls, door-to-door, worksite visits, public speaking, etc.
      • Comfortable challenging institutions to meet needs of community members
      • Prioritization, adaptability, and flexibility, for this work and what's on your plate. Embraces an “all hands on deck” attitude for the small and big tasks.
      • Ability to work independently and collaborate in small teams
      • Experience using online / cloud-based platforms or willingness to learn. Position will require extensive use of Salesforce customer relationship management software.
    • Language: Fluent in English and Spanish or English and Haitian Creole. Experience interpreting and translating English to Spanish and Spanish to English or English to Haitian Creole or Haitian Creole to Spanish.
    • Physical Requirements: lifting boxes occasionally up to 50 pounds, working on a computer for extended periods.
    • Vehicle: Personal, reliable vehicle required. Mileage reimbursement and Mano en Mano vehicle for longer travel available.
    • Pay Range: $45,240-47,320 based on years of experience working with Mano en Mano. This pay rate already factors language fluency and we will not hire somebody who does not meet the language fluency requirement.
    • Benefits: Health, dental, and vision insurance provided to the employee at no cost; 401(k) plan with 6% matching contributions, over 5 weeks of paid time off per year. Company computer and phone provided.
    • Expected Schedule (Full-Time): This position ends on September 30, 2024. Must feel comfortable working early mornings, late evenings, and overnight extended travel as required. This position will require significant travel within Maine.

    This is a hybrid position that will require significant travel within Maine to conduct in-person outreach and services, but will also include administrative duties (e.g. application processing and follow-up) that may be done remotely. This position is focused on outreach and services in southern Maine (Portland area).
