Manufacturing Engineer
Spooner, WI | Direct-Hire | $80,000 – $120,000 (Flexible DOE) | 100% Onsite
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Manufacturing Engineer to join a high-performing team within a structural steel fabrication environment. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in optimizing manufacturing processes, supporting production efficiency, and driving continuous improvement initiatives across engineering, production, and quality teams. This role includes direct responsibility for supporting and improving robotic welding systems, requiring an understanding of servo systems, pneumatics, and automation controls.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and refine manufacturing processes to improve safety, quality, efficiency, and throughput.
- Translate structural and fabrication drawings into detailed work instructions and shop routings.
- Support the planning and execution of production workflows, including resource planning, material flow, and tooling design.
- Identify opportunities to improve weld quality and throughput through programming, tooling, or fixture enhancements in robotic systems.
- Troubleshoot, maintain, and optimize automated robotic welding cells, including diagnostics of servo systems, pneumatics, and related controls.
- Collaborate with maintenance and engineering teams to reduce downtime and ensure optimal performance of welding automation.
- Analyze non-conformances and participate in root cause analysis and corrective actions to ensure product quality and consistency.
- Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, 5S, or Six Sigma methodologies.
- Design custom fixtures and jigs to streamline welding, cutting, and assembly operations.
- Interface with ERP systems to ensure accurate BOMs, routings, and production tracking.
- Ensure all manufacturing methods and documentation comply with applicable codes, standards, and safety regulations.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- 4+ years of manufacturing engineering experience, preferably in structural steel, heavy fabrication, or metalworking industries.
- Hands-on experience with robotic welding systems, including diagnostics and support of servos, pneumatics, and automation hardware is preferred.
- Understanding of robotic welding programming and control systems is preferred.
- Experience with CAD software (AutoCAD, PowerFab, Tekla, or equivalent) for fixture and layout design.
- Strong working knowledge of welding processes, CNC equipment, and fabrication practices.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems and manufacturing documentation.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement principles.
- Ability to work onsite in a shop/plant environment and collaborate closely with production teams.
