Mid-Level Manufacturing Engineer (Windows & Doors)
Location: Queens, NY (on-site) Department: Engineering / Operations Reports To: VP Operations Type: Full-time
Role Summary
We’re looking for a hands-on Manufacturing Engineer (3+ years) to drive throughput, quality, and cost reduction across our window manufacturing lines (vinyl/aluminum). You’ll own process improvement, tooling/fixtures, new equipment integration, and production support—partnering closely with Production, Quality, Maintenance, and Sales to keep jobs moving and customers happy.
Key Responsibilities
Process Optimization: Map current state, remove bottlenecks, and improve takt/OEE, scrap, and first-pass yield using lean/5S/Kaizen.
Equipment & Tooling: Specify and commission machinery (e.g., double-miter saws, 4-head welders, corner cleaners, hardware stations, IGU line); design jigs/fixtures; create preventive maintenance plans with Maintenance. Assist the mechanic with troubleshooting equipment and minimizing downtime.
Standard Work & Documentation: Build/maintain SOPs, WI’s, control plans, PFMEA; train operators and line leads.
Quality Engineering: Analyze defects/returns; implement corrective actions aligned to AAMA/NFRC and relevant ASTM performance standards (air/water/structural/thermal).
New Product Introduction: Industrialize new profiles/assemblies—BOM/routing setup, pilot runs, capability studies, and ramp-to-rate.
Data & Cost: Track line metrics (OEE, downtime, changeover, scrap); partner with Supply Chain on yield, alternative materials, and vendor qualifications.
Safety & Compliance: Engineer guards/ergonomics; support OSHA and electrical/mechanical safety on the floor.
Qualifications
3–5+ years in manufacturing/industrial engineering (windows/fenestration, building products, or discrete fabrication strongly preferred).
BS in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent experience).
Ability to read and write in Chinese
Proficiency with CAD (SolidWorks/AutoCAD) and MS Office.
Demonstrated lean toolkit (5S, SMED, value-stream mapping, root cause/8D).
Comfortable on the floor—diagnosing issues at machines, with operators, and vendors.
Nice to Have
Experience with IGU processes (spacer/butyl/hot-melt, gas fill), vinyl welding parameters, aluminum fabrication, and hardware installation cells.
Basic statistics/DOE; gauge R&R; familiarity with AAMA/NFRC audits.
Exposure to PLC/HMI basics and machine safety.
What Success Looks Like (First 90–180 Days)
Launch 5S + Standard Work in one of the three production lines (vinyl production); OEE +10% and scrap −15%.
Improve QC satisfactory results by 30%.
Implement PM checklists on priority machines; unplanned downtime −20%.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary: $70,000–$85,000 base + performance bonus; PTO, holidays, 401(k) match, and continuing education/self-improvement course expense reimbursement.
Schedule & Work Environment
Monday–Friday, primarily day shift; occasional off-shift support for trials/startups.
Office adjacent to production; frequent time on the floor with PPE.
Equal Opportunity Employer. We value diversity and provide equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants.
