Manufacturing Estimator
We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically minded Manufacturing Estimator to join our team. This critical role is responsible for developing accurate and timely cost estimates for machining, fabrication, stamping, and welding projects. The Estimator will analyze technical drawings, models, and specifications to determine the most efficient manufacturing process, materials, and labor required. This position works closely with engineering, production, and customers to ensure quotes are competitive, accurate, and aligned with company capabilities. The successful candidate will have strong technical understanding of manufacturing methods and the ability to translate engineering information into clear, data-driven cost estimates. This job requires a high level of attention to detail, analytical ability, and self-discipline. The Estimator must be capable of managing multiple RFQs simultaneously while maintaining accuracy, organization, and responsiveness.
Reports to: Engineering Manager
Key Responsibilities
•Develop detailed cost estimates and quotes for machining, fabrication, stamping, and welding projects.
•Analyze engineering drawings, models, and specifications to identify materials, labor, and process requirements.
•Determine manufacturing methods, routing steps, setup and run times, and required tooling or fixtures.
•Prepare full quotations including materials, outside processing, and lead times using JobBOSS and Excel.
•Create and maintain estimating templates, quote logs, and standard cost data for consistency and traceability.
•Communicate directly with customers to clarify technical details, manufacturability concerns, and delivery expectations.
•Collaborate with production, engineering, and purchasing teams to verify accuracy of material pricing and subcontract costs.
•Support the creation of process routers/travelers for awarded work, ensuring alignment between quote and production plan.
•Participate in continuous improvement by reviewing completed jobs and comparing estimated vs. actual costs.
•Provide input on cost reduction and efficiency improvement opportunities.
•Maintain a professional and responsive approach to customer RFQs and internal stakeholders.
Required Skills & Qualifications
•Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
•3–5 years of experience in estimating or manufacturing engineering within metal fabrication, stamping, or machining environments.
•Strong understanding of machining, welding, fabrication, and assembly processes.
•Ability to interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T.
•Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and familiarity with ERP systems (JobBOSS experience strongly preferred).
•Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
•Demonstrated ability to manage multiple quotes and deadlines simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
•Experience with SolidWorks or other CAD software for measurement and manufacturability review.
•Knowledge of vendor quoting for outside services (plating, painting, coating, heat treat, etc.).
•Familiarity with sheet nesting, material utilization, and multi-process estimating.
•Experience performing post-job cost analysis and continuous improvement tracking.
Additional Requirements
•Ability to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods.
•May require occasional lifting of materials up to 50 lbs.
•Ability to work in a manufacturing or production environment.
