    About Maplewell

Maplewell is transforming infrastructure and modernizing energy at the grid edge. Through a demand side management platform, Maplewell enables peak shaving, decarbonization, grid services, and asset management with the latest advances in AI, Digital Twins, optimization, and hardware controllers.  With a SBIR contract with the US Navy and pilot projects with a Fortune 1000 oil and gas company, we're an energy startup positioning for growth and leading IoT applications within industrial, maritime, and military sectors.  Maplewell's vision is to be the leader in industrial demand response and control 1GW of peak load.

    What the role entails

    • You'll be working closely with the Chief Technology Officer to research and develop algorithms:
    • Develop and utilize supervised learning methods for learning dynamical models (for temperature dynamics, etc) and learning physical models or power devices;
    • Develop and use time-series forecasting methods.
    • Mathematical optimization, programming, simulation (Matlab, Python, o Julia), energy modeling.
    • Tailoring macroclimate models and environmental measurements to site specific conditions with AI/ML techniques

    THIS ROLE WILL REQUIRE:

Mathematical optimization modeling applied to energy technologies and systems. Use of mathematical optimization solvers and the development of optimization algorithms. Develop custom energy performance models and apply simulation software packages to evaluate energy use. Build and maintain in-house simulation models from Modellica libraries and Simulink Analyze data, from energy models and continuous commissioning systems.

    THIS ROLE MAY REQUIRE:

    • Utilize energy simulation software for building optimization and analysis such as OpenStudio, EnergyPlus, (including Python and R programming experience if any).
    • Integrating financial models into simulation for techno-economic analysis
    • Set up and perform in-depth physical modelling or statistical analyses of equipment, system, and energy performance.
    • This position will also successfully apply an understanding of energy project development fundamentals (e.g., appropriate size of energy generation, energy conservation measures (ECM)) and energy technologies (e.g., storage, PV, CHP, microturbines, and other ECMs)

    QUALIFICATIONS WE REQUIRE

    • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Statistics, or Applied Mathematics.

    • Experience with signal processing, data analysis, or data manipulation, in software languages such as MATLAB, Python, Simulink, R and C

    • Mathematical and Statistical skills with an ability to apply statistical methodologies in the data science domain as well as programming and simulation experience in Python, Matlab, Simulink, etc.

    • Experience identifying concepts and leading execution in cross-functional engineering/commercial teams.

    • Ability to solve problems in a highly collaborative environment

    • Experience with optimization/predictive models (e.g., unit-commitment, price forecasting, energy market operations).

    QUALIFICATIONS WE DESIRE

    • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or Applied Mathematics
    • Knowledge of instrumentation and data acquisition
    • Electrical hardware packaging experience
    • Some competency in any of the following programming languages: Python, C#, Java, Julia,
    • 2 to 4 years of experience and successfully finished projects within power systems.
    • 2 to 4 years of experience working with Energy Management Systems (BMS/EMS) with an understanding of the EMS controls and basics.
    • Experience with APIs, running techno-economic analytics, electricity markets, and grid services participation.
    • Experience working with external vendors.
    • Experience in creating innovative but repeatable solutions, and scaling programs.
    • Excellent organizational and execution skills.
