  • Responsibilities

    Our global brokerage firm has an opportunity for a full-time, in-house Junior Legal Officer at the Chicago Loop location. The incumbent will be a recent graduate with an interest in financial services and corporate governance. The candidate will have opportunities to be engaged in all aspects of the legal department starting in a supporting role with opportunity to advance as skills develop. The ideal candidate for this position is highly organized, with excellent writing skills, a strong work ethic, exceptional problem-solving skills and is comfortable working in a fast paced and dynamic workplace.

    Responsibilities

    • Maintaining contract and matter management databases, carrying out due diligence on new suppliers, approval of supplier invoices

    • Assisting with the review, negotiation and execution of commercial agreements;

    • Assisting with the drafting of and issuing pro forma documentation for new products, businesses and activities;

    • Negotiating and arranging for execution of confidentiality agreements;

    • Research into regulatory developments affecting the company and reporting/advising on regulatory developments;

    • Assisting with intellectual property issues including ensuring appropriate registration of patents, trademarks and domain names worldwide;

    • Ongoing updating and monitoring of website, internet and other disclaimers;

    • Assisting on dispute resolution matters, including litigation, and maintaining litigation and complaints schedule;

    • Assisting other team members in the Group Legal department and the Group Compliance;

    • Working collaboratively with other operational departments

    Position Requirements

    • Advanced skill with Microsoft Office suite, especially Outlook, Word and Excel

    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills – oral and written

    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy

    • Excellent time management skills and ability to work to strict deadlines

    • Licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. state

    Other Information

    • Internship/experience at a financial regulator (CFTC, SEC, etc) or exchange preferred

    • Some travel may be required

    • Company will not provide visa sponsorship for this position
