    Job Description

     

    BENEFITS OF INTERNING AT MKI:

    • Participate in the creative and editing process of press releases, event submissions, media alerts, social media posts and more.
    • Attend client events in Chicago.

    • Learn from a professional staff with experience in many areas of PR.
    • Work on a number of clients from food and restaurant to non-profits.
    • Attend various networking opportunities.
    • Become trained in and work with essential industry tools.
    • Work on the 37th floor of the John Hancock Center (remote positions are currently available due to COVID-19).

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Document and track secured client media coverage.

    • Assist with client events as applicable including: TV segments, grand openings, galas, promotional opportunities, cocktail parties, luncheons, walks, fundraisers, etc. (many of these are done virtually now with COVID-19)

    • Draft press materials including releases, media alerts, talking points, event submissions, etc.

    • Collaborate with executive team in planning and coordinating successful social media influencer campaigns.

    • Create targeted social media content for MKI pages and various clients’ social media profiles.

    • Collaborate on and complete an Intern Project with fellow intern class.

    • Utilize vital media tools to create targeted media lists and track coverage.

    • Assist in the development of strategies for different clients through collaboration with executive team and independent research.

    • Schedule client and agency content using Hootsuite and Facebook.

    • Research new strategies, technologies and social media trends.

    • Edit/peer-review social media posts created by other interns prior to approval from executive team.

     

    WHAT TO EXPECT AS AN MKI INTERN: 

    • Receive instruction and hands-on experience doing entry-level public relations and social media work in an agency setting.
    • Work closely with the MKI executive team.
    • Develop a thorough knowledge of local media relations and the ability to find appropriate media contacts.
    • Craft creative and engaging social media; develop a solid understanding of social media strategy as it relates to public relations.
    • Practice networking and event management skills at client and media events.
    • Hold to the same standards as an entry-level employee, practicing good judgment and professionalism on a daily basis.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • ONE PREVIOUS INTERNSHIP IN PUBLIC RELATIONS, SOCIAL MEDIA OR RELATED.

    • A current full-time or part-time college student.

    • Possess a keen attention-to-detail and stellar organization skills.

    • Familiar with AP style guidelines.

    • Must practice communicative and proactive approach to work, while multi-tasking and meeting strict deadlines.

    • Must have a solid understanding of social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.

    • Available at least three days a week for 6 – 7 hours per day, for a total of 18-21 hours per week.
