Job Description
The Controller is responsible for the accounting operations of multiple companies within the organization to ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial reports, maintain financial accounting records, and develop a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, and assist leadership in budgeting and planning process as needed on several projects concurrently, and large multi-faceted projects. The Controller is responsible for the accuracy of all reported financial results, and ensure that all the reporting is in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles. This person monitors the corporate financial health so each project is efficient, successfully, and profitably completed under all construction projects under our umbrella.
Qualifications
5+ years of overall combined account and finance experience
Advanced degree in Accounting
CPA or CMA preferred
Proven working experience as a Financial controller
Experienced with Quick Books Premier Edition or Quick Books Enterprise Edition
Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
Experience with creating financial statements
Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year end close process
Excellent accounting software user and administrative skills
Personal qualities of integrity, credibility and who is proactive, hands-on strategic thinker who will own, in partnership with the CEO, the responsibility of finance.
Solid experience coordinating audit activities and managing reporting, budget development and analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll and accounting for investments
Keen analytic, organization and problem-solving skills which allow for strategic data interpretation versus, simple reading.
Strong computer and typing skills
Positive, friendly, approachable disposition
Ability to work with multiple priorities
Must have the ability to work independently
Additional Information
POSITION DESCRIPTION (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)
Prepare daily/weekly reports including cost-to-complete reports
Post payables and receivables for jobs and various projects
Prepare & process payroll and payroll taxes
Prepare and monitor payments to subcontractors, suppliers and minority participants
Prepare monthly reports as requested by CEO
Prepare and maintain quarterly reporting for bonding
Prepare weekly financial reports for owner including profit/loss, payables, receivables
Pursue insurance rebates (annually)
Obtain loss runs and solicit new insurance bids (every 2 years)
Work with CEO and customers when needed for budgeting/financial analysis on specific projects
Maintain Banking records and activity, including: o Monitoring account balances and activity on a daily basis for project commitments o Maintaining ledger and reconcile accounts o Prepare and deposit checks o Issue checks for all activities as needed
Prepare job cost reports when requested or as scheduled
Prepare and submit quarterly payroll tax returns, including: o Federal as scheduled o Florida Tax Withheld reconciliation, NC, and MA if needed o Local municipality tax-withheld reconciliation
Prepare year-end financial reports for year-end corporate tax returns
Assist with other team members on an AS NEEDED basis to meet company deadlines on special projects
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Continuous sitting throughout the work shift
Frequent bends, kneels and crouches
Must be able to read small print
Stooping and bending to files, supplies, mobility to complete tasks
Repetitive movements of hands, fingers and arms for typing, writing, sorting during work shift
Frequently lifts, carries or otherwise moves and positions objects weighing 10-20lbs
Continuous use of the telephone (speaking & listening) to verbally speak to insurance companies and/or assigned by senior management
Ability to reach with hands and arms
Must be able to handle stress
Will view computer screens for long periods of time.
Must be able to work standard office equipment: computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, telephones, etc.
Work requires hand dexterity for office machine operation
