Position Description

RISE is seeking a detail-oriented and creative Marketing and Communications Specialist to support the Director of Marketing and Communications and External Relations Team in promoting our mission and expanding our reach. This role is ideal for someone passionate about storytelling, social justice, and nonprofit marketing. The Marketing and Communications Specialist will contribute to content creation, social media management, event promotion, and administrative tasks to help drive awareness, engagement, and support for RISE’s mission and programs.

** About RISE**

RISE is a nonprofit organization that facilitates an innovative program for people who are currently and formerly incarcerated. The RISE program focuses on employment readiness, character development and entrepreneurship. RISE works with program graduates pre-release and post-release on reentry planning, navigating returning home to find housing and employment, and connecting them with wrap-around services and resources in the community. RISE’s vision is that all people will find freedom from cycles of incarceration.

Responsibilities

• Assist in drafting and scheduling content for RISE’s social media platforms, newsletters, and blog.
• Support the production and distribution of marketing materials and digital campaigns, including event flyers.
• Help maintain RISE’s website, ensuring content is up to date and aligned with branding.
• Organize and update marketing assets.
• Maintain promotional material inventory.
• Support efforts in event promotion and coordination support, including volunteer and donor communications.
• Perform other marketing and administrative tasks as needed to support departmental goals.

** Minimum Qualifications**

• 3 years professional experience in marketing, communications, or a related field.
• Excellent writing, proofreading, and organizational skills.
• Experience in social media platforms and services, email marketing services, and content management systems.
• Basic computer skills.
• Experience in Google Sheets and/or Microsoft Excel.
• Experience in graphic design and creation platforms preferred (Canva, Adobe Suite, or similar).
• Experience with customer relationship management (CRM) systems is preferred.
• Familiarity with Squarespace or similar website platforms is preferred.
• Familiarity with On-Page Search Engine Optimization strategies.
• Passion for social justice and the mission of RISE.
• Demonstrates ability to anticipate and proactively support departmental needs.
• Self-starter with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Previous experience in a nonprofit or advocacy organization preferred but not required.
• Experience with photography,videography, and editing is a plus, but not required.

** Other**

• Must be willing to work flexible hours, occasionally working evenings and weekends.
• Travel is required for this role. Must possess a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance.
