The Maryland State Bar Association is a 125-plus-year-old organization that supports legal professionals in Maryland and beyond. We serve the profession by providing continuing legal education, reference books, content, networking events, and more. We are looking for an experienced Marketing Specialist to help us create greater awareness of MSBA's vast diversity of offerings, build and expand our brand recognition in the market, and execute our marketing strategy and initiatives.
This hybrid role will allow the successful candidate to work most days remotely while supporting in-person learning and events on an as-assigned basis throughout the year.
Role Overview
The Marketing Specialist reports to the Chief Marketing Officer. This role supports all communication efforts and initiatives related to MSBA and assists with major communication initiatives for our partners, Maryland Access to Justice Commission and Maryland Bar Foundation. The Marketing Specialist is responsible for executing multi-channel marketing strategies focusing on email marketing, social media management, content creation, and analytics to support MSBA and its partners. This role plays a crucial part in engaging MSBA's audience across various platforms and contributing to data-driven marketing decisions.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Email Marketing
Conceptualize effective email marketing campaigns and work in collaboration with MSBA staff and project owners to execute organizational email marketing strategy.
Create and edit well-written email copy
Create and/or coordinate the development of assets for email marketing use
Manage email lists and segmentation to ensure targeted communication
Develop and maintain Email Marketing Editorial Calendar under the strategic guidance of the Chief Marketing Officer
Social Media Management
Create social media posts for various social media platforms in accordance with the Social Media Calendar, including copy and visual elements.
Manage MSBA's social media presence across various platforms
Monitor social media channels for engagement opportunities and respond to inquiries
Stay updated on social media trends and platform changes
Collaborate with other MSBA staff to improve processes around social media posting and content generation to ensure optimal team performance
Develop and manage MSBA’s and related organizations’ 12-month Social Media Calendar under the strategic guidance of the Chief Marketing Officer.
Content Creation
Create images for brand-focused social media campaigns and program/event/campaign-specific images.
Work with internal stakeholders to brainstorm content ideas to support MSBA's strategy and its various brand initiatives.
Manage brand templates across Canva and Google Workspace for broader team use.
Produce various types of content to support marketing initiatives (e.g., blog posts, articles, infographics)
Create and edit basic video content for social media
Manage MSBA's YouTube channel and other digital media platforms
Ensure all content aligns with MSBA's brand voice and messaging guidelines
Contribute to the development of marketing collateral for events and programs
Analytics
Track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) for email, social media, and content marketing efforts
Prepare regular reports on campaign performance and audience engagement
Provide data-driven insights to inform future marketing strategies
Assist in the preparation of marketing assessment report
Other Duties:
The MSBA is a membership-based organization that connects members through both virtual and in-person events and meetings.
Staff may be required to attend such events to support membership retention and recruitment efforts, participate in educating members and Board members on ongoing initiatives and projects, and facilitate the execution of large scale projects (e.g. Legal Summit & Annual Meeting).
Participate in staff “all hands” development meetings (typically 1-2 x’s per year) at MSBA offices or other Maryland based locations.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience:
3+ years of experience in marketing, with a focus on email marketing, social media management, and digital content creation
Exceptional organizational skills, strong attention to detail, with the ability to work independently, work under pressure of deadlines, and effectively manage multiple projects.
Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to adapt tone for different audiences and platforms
Experience with analytics tools and data-driven marketing strategies
Knowledge of content management systems and basic HTML
Demonstrates creativity, flexibility, and resourcefulness in working on multiple projects.
Familiarity with project management tools such as Asana
Deep understanding and knowledge of social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, X (Twitter) and Linkedin.
Knowledge of office computer applications and proficiency in Word Processing, WordPress, Email Applications (e.g., Constant Contact), Google Documents, Excel, Canva, and Google Workspace.
Familiarity with member databases (e.g. iMis) and IQA development a plus
Compensation & Benefits:
MSBA offers a competitive benefits package inclusive of salary, health benefits, remote-first work environment, generous PTO, and more. The expected range for this role is $58,000 - $68,000.
Maryland resident preferred— consideration for PA or DE residents located within 75 miles of Baltimore, MD.
