    Marketing & Business Development Intern

We are seeking a current college student interested in marketing, digital marketing, business development, communications, or a related field to join our insurance agency as a Marketing & Business Development Intern.

This is a hands-on internship designed to give students real-world experience while allowing them to contribute to the growth and visibility of a local business. The intern will work directly with agency leadership on marketing initiatives, digital content, lead generation, community outreach, and business development projects.

    The intern may assist with:

Developing and maintaining a social media content calendar

Creating educational and promotional content related to insurance, financial protection, and local business needs

Creating graphics and marketing materials using Canva or similar tools

Researching SEO opportunities and improving the agency’s online visibility

Researching local businesses, organizations, events, and potential referral or community partnerships

Supporting targeted outreach and telemarketing campaigns

Assisting with lead research and organizing prospective client information

Developing campaigns to promote agency products, services, community events, and educational programs

Supporting client engagement initiatives such as birthday cards, review requests, and other relationship-building efforts

Researching competitors and identifying marketing trends relevant to the agency

Tracking basic marketing activity and helping prepare reports on campaign performance

Assisting with community outreach and identifying opportunities to increase the agency’s presence throughout Detroit and Metro Detroit

Helping develop marketing resources that can be used by the agency after the internship ends

The goal is not simply to have the intern “help with marketing.” Students will be given real projects and measurable deliverables that can become part of their professional portfolio. Depending on the intern’s skills and interests, projects may include a local SEO audit, content strategy, social media campaign, business prospecting campaign, community outreach initiative, or marketing performance report.

The intern will also gain exposure to how marketing connects to sales, customer retention, business operations, and overall business growth within a small insurance agency.

    Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a current college student who is:

Studying marketing, business, communications, digital marketing, entrepreneurship, or a related field

Creative but also comfortable working with data and research

Comfortable learning new software and technology

Strong in written and verbal communication

Organized and able to manage multiple assignments

Comfortable making phone calls and communicating with businesses or prospective clients

Interested in learning how marketing supports actual revenue and business development

Able to work independently after receiving direction and training

Professional, dependable, and willing to take ownership of assigned projects

Insurance experience is not required. The intern will learn the insurance side of the business while developing transferable marketing and business-development skills.

As an additional professional-development opportunity, interns may have access to a free insurance education course and may have the opportunity to pursue an insurance license if they are interested. Licensing is not required to participate in the marketing internship.

Schedule: 10–15 hours per week Internship Length: Approximately 12 weeks Location: Detroit, Michigan / agency office with opportunities for appropriate off-site or remote project work
