Job Description
This position will be responsible to perform the following duties and tasks:
- Track and document important dates and other information regarding company workflow (such as dates documents are received, picked up, and tax returns are filed for each client).
- Perform data entry for bookkeeping engagements using Quickbooks desktop software.
- Answer all incoming phone calls and greet clients at the front desk.
- Prepare outgoing mail.
- Assemble final copies of accountant’s work product for presentation to clients.
- Go over completed tax return folders with clients, explaining to clients the contents as well as the instructions from the preparer.
- Scan documents onto company server and shred copies of documents no longer in use.
- Re-order supplies when inventories are low.
- Make occasional trips to the bank, post office, store, client businesses, and/or company office in Floyd as needed to make deposits, send mail, purchase supplies, and deliver documents.
- Open the office at 8:30 am and close it at 5:00pm each weekday.
Requirements:
- Associates degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field, or at least 1 year of full-time experience at a public accounting firm.
- Skilled use of Microsoft Office applications, including, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Experience using Quickbooks preferred.
- Occasional use of personal vehicle to run errands and make deliveries, for which mileage will be reimbursed.
- Strong ethics and attention to detail.
- Some overtime may be required during tax season or close to high-volume deadlines.
Note: This position does not offer flexible hours or remote work.

We are a small public accounting firm led by two CPAs with several decades of combined experience. We offer tax preparation, auditing, bookkeeping, and payroll services to about 600 individual, business, and nonprofit clients in the New River Valley and beyond. Our main office is located in Christiansburg, and we have a satellite office in Floyd.
