  • Responsibilities

We are looking for a part-time care provider to join our family starting in January (or sooner, if available). We live in the Lyon Park/Ashton Heights neighborhood of North Arlington, Virginia.

    Role Responsibilities:

    • Assist our full-time nanny in the care of our two (soon to be three) children
    • Run miscellaneous family errands as needed
    • Prepare and clean-up family dinners (please note: we will supply recipes and would happily feed you as well)
    • Help with bedtime routines on occasion
    • Assist with family laundry and light household chores
    • An enthusiastic, positive attitude and a willingness to play with toddlers, read books aloud, act silly, and dance along to fun music are a must
    • Ability to speak Spanish is helpful, although not a requirement
    • Experience with an infant is also helpful, although not a requirement
    • Future responsibilities may include driving child(ren) to afternoon activities and preparing school lunches for the next day

General Notes: The position would be 25 to 35 hours per week; however, we would be willing to split the position between two or three individuals if the ideal candidate was not available to provide full coverage. Preferred hours would be 2:00 - 8:30 pm Monday through Friday, but these hours could be somewhat flexible. There is also the opportunity for babysitting on the occasional weekend and/or date night. Compensation would range from $15 up to $20 per hour depending on past experience. The candidates must be legal to work in the United States and will be paid through a payroll service. We will provide a car and/or necessary child restraint seats for safely transporting children. If you do not have child/infant CPR and choking rescue training, we will send you to a training course.

About us: We are a loving, busy family with two working parents. Our daughter was born in July 2014, and our son was born in June 2016. We are expecting another boy in January 2018. We aspire to be "free range" (rather than "helicopter") parents and raise independent, self-confident children. During the week, our full-time nanny engages the children in arts & crafts, takes them to story time, and makes sure to get them outside for plenty of fresh air. She speaks to them in Spanish as we are attempting to raise bilingual children. Our daughter attends a half-day Montessori preschool, Monday through Friday. On weekends, we do everything we can to be outside during the day. Family outings include going to Gravelly Point Park to watch the planes take off and land at Reagan National Airport, and we are frequent visitors to the National Zoo. In the evenings, we eat dinner together as a family, play, and (try to) read a book before bed. Occasionally there are impromptu dance parties in our living room, dancing not only to children's music but also Latin music, The Beetles, or Harry Belafonte.
