    Staff Accountant Job Description

    Department: Finance

    Salary: $80,000.00 - $90,000.00

    Position Overview:

    We are seeking a skilled and experienced Staff Accountant to join our accounting team. This position requires an individual with a strong background in accounting principles and a proven track record of managing complex accounting tasks. The ideal candidate will have expertise in financial reporting, analysis, and job cost accounting, with the ability to work independently and contribute to the financial health of our organization. This role involves maintaining financial records, conducting regular audits, and preparing reports to ensure accuracy and compliance with legal standards.

    Key Responsibilities:

    1. Financial Reporting and Analysis: Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Analyze financial data to identify trends, manage cash flow, and recommend financial actions by analyzing accounting options.

    2. Job Cost Accounting: Implement and oversee job cost accounting procedures. Analyze project costs and profitability to enhance financial decision-making and performance evaluation.

    3. Audit and Compliance: Conduct regular internal audits to ensure accuracy and compliance with GAAP and applicable legal standards. Assist with external audits by providing necessary information and documentation.

    4. Tax Preparation: Assist in preparing tax returns and corporate reporting requirements. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions.

    5. Account Reconciliation: Perform monthly account reconciliations, including bank statements and other financial accounts, to ensure accurate reporting and ledger maintenance.

    6. Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate and recommend improvements to accounting processes and systems to increase efficiency and accuracy.

    Qualifications:

    Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. Master’s degree or professional certifications (CPA or CMA) preferred.

    Experience: 3-5 years of experience in accounting or related field, with a strong focus on financial reporting, job cost accounting, and compliance.

    Technical Skills: Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle Financials) and Microsoft Excel. Experience with ERP systems is a plus.

    Analytical Abilities: Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret and communicate financial data effectively.

    Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex financial information clearly.

    Leadership and Organization: Strong organizational and time management skills, with the capability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Leadership qualities or experience supervising junior staff is beneficial.
