We are looking for an Associate Appraiser to help us push our Valuations Team to set the absolute industry standard. You will be responsible for developing appraisals for the world's fastest growing contemporary art collection and sourcing valuations for dozens of new acquisitions every month.

This isn't the old “PDF and email” way of doing things. You will become an expert on cutting edge tools to research, organize and document your appraisal work – from databases, to automations, analytics, statistical concepts, etc. – this role will define how fine art appraisals will get done in the 21st century.

As a part of Masterworks' Finance Department, the Valuation Team is tasked with framing art valuations for use by highly sophisticated finance professionals and investors.

Our Appraiser combines a love and expertise for contemporary art with a highly process driven, analytical mind-set. You love to get stuff done. You are ready for a fast-paced environment unlike anything in the art market. You will see more blue-chip art than anywhere else.

      • Providing important valuation input for paintings >$1mm by artists like Andy Warhol, Joan Mitchell and Mark Bradford
    • Supporting acquisitions due diligence, including:
      • Performing research on artworks in the Masterworks portfolio and prospective acquisitions
      • Analyzing historical prices for sets of comparable works by an artist
      • Viewing artworks in person and on site, as necessary
    • Supporting our Senior Appraiser for quarterly appraisals of the collection
    • Driving process improvement and scale
      • Improving dashboards, templates, tools and data flow
      • Managing pricing data and information, in compliance with USPAP standards, for the 200+ artworks owned by the company

    Requirements or Skill Sets:

    • 4+ years of experience in the art market
    • Extensive knowledge of the secondary art market for Post War & Contemporary Art
    • Experience at a major auction house, appraisal firm or advisory group strongly preferred
