    What We Need:

    We are seeking a Controller (or Director of Accounting) to own the accounting, systems, financial reporting, controls and audit for our corporate management company and related entities.

    Our Controller will have an important leadership role within our high-performance, automation-oriented finance and operations team. We thrive on advanced tools like Python, Alteryx, SQL, Google Query and the like so we manage $1 billion worth of art across 300+ SEC-reporting entries - and the portfolio keeps growing. Our Controller combines their core technical accounting expertise with best-in-class systems, workflow efficiency and automation. This role will collaborate closely with our Investment Entity Controller and initially report to the CFO.

    What You'll Own:

    • Financial Reporting : Financial statements, reports, and budgets to provide accurate and timely financial information to senior management and investors
    • Financial Controls and Accounting Policies : Establish and maintain effective financial controls, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements
    • Audit Preparation: Coordinate and manage annual financial audits and collaborate with external auditors to ensure a smooth audit process.
    • Cash Flow Management: Monitor cash flow, manage working capital, and optimize financial resources to support company growth
    • Accounts Payable and Corporate Cards: Oversee accounting manager with responsibility for vendor management, cards and accounts payable
    • Payroll and Benefits : Oversee payroll manager with responsibility for payroll, benefits and stock-based compensation
    • Tax Compliance: Coordinate with Director of Tax on tax compliance and filings
    • Project Management: Proven experience in effectively managing financial projects and process improvement initiatives
    • Technology Proficiency: Demonstrated expertise in utilizing financial software and systems, such as NetSuite, Alteryx, SQL, and Python, to streamline financial operations and reporting

    The Ideal You:

    • You've spent 7-10+ years in accounting, corporate finance or related field in a high-growth environment
    • CPA strongly preferred
    • Experience with NetSuite strongly preferred
    • Experience with corporate card and AP systems–Ramp, Tipalti, Coupa, etc
    • Experience with payroll systems–ADP, Paychex, Justworks, etc
    • Experience with SOX preparation, SOC1 audits and managing audit processes
    • Strong systems orientation. You thrive on automation and process efficiency
    • Experience with Alteryx a massive plus
    • SQL and/or Python fluency a big plus
    • Resourceful, adaptable, batteries included – that's you

    What You'll Get Done in the First 90 Days:

    • Streamline monthly close and reporting within first 10 days of the month
    • Kick-off corporate audit, position in the process for early completion in Q1 2024
    • Complete first SOC1 audit

    Additional Requirements:

    • Must be able to work in the office in the NYC area
    • Must be eligible to work in the US - no exceptions.

    How does Masterworks think about compensation?

    The compensation range for the role is $150-180k (inclusive only of base salary, and exclusive of other potential competitive benefits such as on-target commission, bonus payments, and equity). Our ranges are very broad to accommodate all types of candidates and encourage growth. Specific compensation offered to a candidate may be dependent on factors such as education, experience, qualifications, and alignment with market data.
