POSITION SUMMARY:
The Materials & Inventory Specialist is a key member of the supply chain and operations team, responsible for handling inbound and outbound materials, maintaining accurate inventory records, and ensuring efficient flow of goods throughout the facility. This role combines receiving, material handling, and inventory control duties to support production, warehousing, and procurement functions.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Receiving & Inspection:
- Receive, unload, and inspect incoming shipments against packing slips and purchase orders.
- Verify accuracy of deliveries, document discrepancies or damage, and communicate with procurement or vendors as needed.
- Accurately enter received goods into the inventory management system.
- Label, tag, and route materials to the correct departments or storage locations.
Material Handling:
- Move raw materials, components, and finished goods safely and efficiently within the facility using pallet jacks, forklifts, or other equipment.
- Stage materials for production or shipping based on schedules and work orders.
- Ensure proper storage, labeling, and organization of materials and supplies.
- Assist in maintaining clean, safe, and organized warehouse and storage areas.
Inventory Control:
- Perform daily inventory transactions, cycle counts, and assist with physical inventories.
- Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies to maintain accurate stock levels.
- Analyze usage trends to support procurement and production planning.
- Maintain inventory records and generate reports as required.
General Operations Support:
- Collaborate with production, shipping, and procurement teams to ensure continuous material availability.
- Follow all safety protocols and comply with OSHA and internal quality standards.
- Proactively identify opportunities for process improvements related to inventory accuracy and material flow.
REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or vocational training preferred.
- 2+ years of combined experience in material handling, inventory control, and/or receiving.
- Proficiency in inventory systems, ERP/WMS platforms (e.g., SAP, NetSuite, Oracle), and basic computer skills (Excel, email, etc.).
- Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a physically active environment.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of FIFO, cycle counting, and warehouse best practices.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Must be able to sit/stand for 8-10 hours
- Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in manufacturing, distribution, or FDA-regulated environments.
- Familiarity with Lean principles or continuous improvement processes.
- Experience handling material traceability or lot-controlled inventory.
