  • Responsibilities

    Matrix designs, manufactures, and sells innovative technological products that help keep people safe. Originally focused on the underground coal mining industry, Matrix has expanded into new industrial markets in the United States and globally. 

    We are currently seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern.  The selected candidate will be responsible for assisting engineers in mechanical design, development, prototyping, and testing of safety related mechanical products and equipment. Will also be required to support the manufacturing and installation of equipment/products.  This position works in a team environment at our home office in Newburgh, IN. This is not a remote position. This is a paid position.

     DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Assist in development of product specifications (may require research of regulatory requirements for a given market and based on general requirements provided)

    • Preparation of requirements and documentation required to define these products, verify compliance to customer requirements, and fulfill Matrix product development process using Arena product lifecycle management software.

    • Assist in completing design tasks from concept to qualification. Create prototypes and conduct engineering development testing to support analysis and assure compliance to established requirements 

    • Produce engineering models and drawings to support design efforts

    • Assist in creating new products through improvements of existing products to support customer, using applicable industry standards, regulatory, and market requirements

    • Verify completed drawings, reports, and BOMs for clarity, completeness and conformity to standards, procedures, and specifications

    • Work with manufacturing engineering on concurrent engineering designs to meet manufacturability and cost goals

    • Ability to demonstrate analytical problem solving

    QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES 

    • Education:  Pursuing a BSME or equivalent 

    • Computer Skills: 

    • MS Office Suite
    • SolidWorks experience preferred
    • Arena (PLM) preferred

     WORKING CONDITIONS  

    • The majority of the work will take place in a typical office setting (cubicle, desk, chair, computer, etc.) or in a lab/testing/development area (lab benches, test equipment, etc.)

    • Occasional travel to vendor or partner facilities may be required (such as a contract manufacturing or engineering facility) but are rarely different from normal office or lab conditions other than possible safety glasses and ESD dissipative gear that may be required

     PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS  

    The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and stoop, or crouch. The employee may need to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
