    Matrix New World Engineering is currently seeking a Principal Mining Sector Practice Leader to play a key role in growing our mining sector business in the Southwest US Region. The successful candidate will have demonstrated success in ground water investigations, remediation projects, and in characterizing migration of contaminants in complex geological environments such as mines/mining. The ideal candidate possesses an entrepreneurial spirit, is enthusiastic, self-motivated and has a strong desire to build a solid practice to enhance and complement our current offering of permitting and compliance services.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Oversee the development and implementation of permitting and compliance strategies for mining projects, ensuring that they meet the legal requirements and best practices of the industry.
    • Grow the existing client and project work base and develop new projects and clients, along with client and program management, and create new business development initiatives.
    • Identify and pursue new project opportunities with existing or new clients.
    • Lead key pursuit efforts.
    • Lead and coordinate the preparation and submission of permit applications, environmental impact assessments, and other regulatory documents to the relevant authorities.
    • Manage and monitor the compliance performance of mining projects, identifying and resolving any issues or risks that may arise during the project lifecycle.
    • Liaise and communicate with internal and external stakeholders, including clients, contractors, consultants, regulators, communities, and NGOs, to ensure effective collaboration and alignment of expectations.
    • Provide technical guidance and support to the project teams and other staff on permitting and compliance matters, ensuring that they have the necessary skills and knowledge to comply with the applicable standards and regulations.
    • Conduct regular audits and reviews of the permitting and compliance processes and systems, ensuring that they are efficient, effective, and up-to-date.
    • Research and analyze the latest trends and developments in the mining industry and the regulatory environment, ensuring that the company stays abreast of the best practices and innovations in permitting and compliance.

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, civil engineering, geology, or hydrogeology or a related field required.
    • Master's degree or higher in environmental engineering, civil engineering, geology, hydrogeology, or a related field preferred.
    • A professional engineer (PE) or professional geologist (PG) license or certification in Arizona and/or Nevada and/or New Mexico preferred.
    • At least 15 years of relevant experience in permitting and compliance management for mining projects, preferably in a leadership role.
    • Proficiency in using various software tools for data analysis, modeling, design, and project management.
    • Knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations.
    • A proven track record of successfully managing complex and large-scale permitting and compliance projects, demonstrating strong project management, problem-solving, decision-making, and analytical skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Excellent communication, negotiation, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with diverse stakeholders.
    • A high level of professionalism, integrity, ethics, and commitment to environmental sustainability
    • Must possess a valid driver's license, with a clean driving record, and be willing to travel and conduct field work as needed.
    • Core competency in Microsoft Office Products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
