    Job Description

    THE OPPORTUNITY: 

    Mattel is currently seeking a Senior Licensing Associate in support of our Infant, Toddler & Preschool businesses. The Sr. Licensing Associate is responsible for handling all aspects of the product approvals process. The Sr. Licensing Associate must ensure that Mattel standards are met for each licensed project while maintaining excellent relationships and meeting the contractual obligations of each partner. 

     

    WHAT YOUR IMPACT WILL BE:  

    • Act as corporate liaison between all appropriate departments and Licensors to assure the success of licensed products in all assigned business segments.
    • Assure proper approvals are obtained from licensors for all aspects of product and collateral material promptly to facilitate schedule adherence.
    • Interface with Mattel team regularly to ensure full understanding of item submitted to the licensor.
    • Attend weekly team meetings and communicate the status of licensed product approvals.
    • Negotiate with licensors when disputes occur, to the satisfaction of both Mattel and the licensor. Write proposals and justifications to ensure approval is secured.
    • Interface with licensing acquisitions department to ensure licenses are secured before product is submitted for approval.
    • Clearly communicate licensor requirements to the team to ensure requirements are met.
    • Ensure that follow-up submissions happen in a timely manner.
    • Initiate approval process as required by working with the product development team to determine enough lead time for meeting project milestones.
    • Ensure that the legal department receives artwork for review as required.
    • Document and track each approval step required by the licensor.
    • Facilitate requests and requirements for photographs, style guides, reference material, or technical information.
    • Communicate contractual samples requirements to manufacturing plants, follow up on sample ship dates, and regularly update the tracking log.
    • Identify when needs of licensor and/or Mattel are at risk and work with management to resolve them promptly, so it does not affect the regular development cycle
    • Stay abreast of past and current trends for assigned brands.
    • Projects and reports as necessary
    • Assist Manager in new hire training
    • Act as back-up for peers as needed
    • Recognize potential bottlenecks and proactively address them
    • Pre-approve legal text, including proper usage of trademarks, registration marks, copyright marks. Pre-approve all written copy and photographs and pattern trade dress.

    WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR: 

    • 3+ years’ experience in a fast-paced licensing, or product development environment.

    • 4+ years Licensing Approvals experience

    • Able to work autonomously with little direct supervision

    •  Excellent written and oral communication skills

    • Outstanding organization and attention to detail

    • Able to handle a high volume of work while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail

    • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of product development

    • Able to multi-task, work independently, and handle many projects simultaneously

    • Able to prioritize based on company’s needs

    • Proven problem-solving skills

    • Proficient in Office 365 and Adobe Creative Cloud
