    Maumee Valley Country Day School is seeking a student-centered, creative individual who orchestrates learning for students in ways that are engaging, challenging, and relevant. The successful candidate is a resourceful and innovative teacher who uses a range of pedagogical techniques in order to reach all learners.

    This position reports to the Head of Middle School and collaborates closely with all members of the 6th grade team, as well as the English Department of the entire school.     Key Responsibilities and Duties

    The best candidate will demonstrate a strong understanding and practice of the following:

    Delivering differentiated instruction

    Experience using the Writing Workshop instruction approach to improve student writing development

    Experience in using a Balanced Reading format to provide students with a range of reading experiences to improve literary skills

    Fostering a growth mindset in students

    Collaboratively planning and co-teaching social studies units

    Collaboratively planning and teaching advisory lessons on geography, SEL, and human growth and development

    Using reading and writing conferences and other formative assessment strategies to provide students with individualized feedback about their reading and writing growth and to identify actions to assist the students in reaching higher levels of reading and writing proficiency

    Collaborate productively between themselves and their grade-level partners, specialists, and academic support

    Apply pedagogical skills to organize and implement rigorous reading and writing instruction that engages and excites our learners

    Have a passion for educational research and effective practice

    Ability to implement backwards design, organizing instruction around established learning objectives, and understanding the vital importance of planning

    Incorporate parental involvement in the instructional program and create strong home-school communication structures

    Attendance at a week-long overnight camp trip with the students

    Flexibility

    Education and Experience:

    Bachelor's degree in education (grades 4-9) specializing in language arts and social studies; master’s degree preferred

    3-5 years of teaching experience in providing stimulating and effective language arts and social studies instruction, preferred

    Proven track record of assisting students in reaching high levels of academic achievement

    Faculty: Must be willing and able to secure an Ohio Permanent Non-Tax certificate or professional teaching license. The school will support you in obtaining this once hired. However, it must be secured within the first six months of employment for compliance purposes.
