    Maumee Valley Country Day School seeks a student-centered, creative individual who orchestrates learning for students in engaging, challenging, and relevant ways to fulfill our personal, experiential, and global vision. A strong candidate is a math teacher who uses various pedagogical techniques to reach all learners. The ideal candidate will have a solid educational background and secondary-school teaching experience with a degree in math. The ideal candidate loves developing experiential problem-based curricula that allow students to grapple with real-world questions and solutions.

    This position reports to the Head of Middle School and collaborates closely with the faculty and staff of the Middle School and the Math Department.

    MIDDLE SCHOOL MATH TEACHER

    Key Responsibilities and Duties:

    Delivering differentiated instruction

    Experience teaching big ideas to promote conceptual understanding

    Use of manipulatives and other hands-on activities for experiential learning

    Demonstrate competency in the field of middle school mathematics

    Foster a growth mindset in students

    Teach up to two math classes

    Provide math support to other teachers and students when not teaching

    Nurture and support students as needed

    Maintain open lines of communication with students, parents, and colleagues

    Demonstrate a genuine passion for teaching mathematics

    Embrace the school and math department mission statement

    Meet performance goals established as part of the annual performance planning process or as the result of organizational planning

    Actively engage in personal and professional work in support of the school’s diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives

    Works independently with minimum supervision

    Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor

    Skills and Competencies:

    Ability to teach Algebra I

    Flexible and adaptable

    Sense of humor and demonstrated success working with teenagers

    Desire to work and grow with others

    Excited about education and learning more about the profession

    Experience developing innovative curricula with a backward-design framework, such as Understanding by Design

    Ability to collaborate within and between departments to emphasize interdisciplinary learning

    Credentials:

    Bachelor's degree in education (4-9 or 7-12) specializing in mathematics; master’s degree preferred

    Faculty: Must be willing and able to secure an Ohio Permanent Non-Tax certificate or Professional Teaching license. The school will support you in obtaining this once hired. However, it must be secured within the first six months of employment for compliance purposes.
