    Maumee Valley Country Day School is seeking a self-starting, motivated, and organized person who has a passion for helping students grow and learn both in the classroom and through athletics. A strong candidate has experience in physical education teaching, coaching, and organizing athletic events and activities.

    This position reports to the Head of Upper School and collaborates closely with the Athletic Director.     Key Responsibilities and Duties:

    Create and teach fitness and wellness classes at the Middle and Upper School level, including online and alternative learning options

    Nurture and support an advisee group of between 8 and 12 Upper School students

    Support our athletic program by providing strength and conditioning workouts, information about proper nutrition, and overall opportunities to grow our student-athletes

    Assist the Athletic Director with the scheduling of events, transportation, communication, and other similar duties as requested by the Athletic Director

    Serve as lead coach for at least one athletic season

    Participate in the life of the school by attending athletic, arts, fundraising, and other school events

    Chaperone school functions, such as dances and school trips, as needed

    Participate on committees and task forces as needed

    Sponsor student clubs and activities as needed

    Maintain open lines of communication with students, parents, and colleagues

    Meet performance goals established as part of the annual performance planning process or as the result of organizational planning

    Actively engage in personal and professional work in support of the school’s diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives

    Works independently with minimum supervision

    Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor

    Skills and Competencies:

    Passion for and knowledge of current best practices in K-12 physical education, physical fitness, and overall wellness

    Sense of humor and demonstrated success working with adolescents

    Flexible and adaptable

    Facility with experiential education

    Ability to differentiate instruction

    Ability to design units and lessons with a backward design framework, such as Understanding by Design

    Ability to collaborate within and between departments to both advance the departments’ goals and to build interdisciplinary learning opportunities

    Proficient in technology, including Arbiter Scheduling Systems, or ability to learn

    Credentials:

    Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required; master’s degree, relevant coursework, or relevant professional experience preferred

    Experience in teaching physical education and health or equivalent experiences working with students ages 13-18, preferred

    Coaching experience, preferred

    Ability to obtain a Pupil Activity Permit through the Ohio Department of Education

    Faculty: Must be willing and able to secure an Ohio Permanent Non-Tax Certificate or Professional Teaching License. The school will support you in obtaining this once you are hired. However, it must be secured within the first six months of employment for compliance purposes.
