    This position reports to the superintendent of Buildings and Grounds and collaborates closely with all of the school’s constituencies, from students, faculty, and staff to parents, alumni, and vendors.     Assistant superintendent of Buildings and Grounds The key components of this position are integrity, grit—pushing through a problem until it is solved—critical thinking, and creativity. As the second in command on the maintenance team, the best candidate will be an individual who thinks quickly and outside the box when it comes to problem solving. It is critical that this person be able to collaborate with the maintenance team and problem solve with the superintendent of Buildings and Grounds. When faced with a problem, our first priority is the students and the second is the institution. The perfect candidate has a wide range of skills in order to beautify and maintain our campus to its full potential.

    Key Responsibilities and Duties: The assistant superintendent of Buildings and Grounds is a vital and managing member of the maintenance team.

    Assist and support the Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds as directed and supervise the daily operation of the maintenance/cleaning staff and buildings and grounds in his absence.

    Assist and support the Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds in the management, maintenance, and compliance for all buildings, facilities, grounds, and equipment. This includes programming and monitoring all building automation systems and life safety systems (fire, security alarms, program systems) as assigned.

    Work some Saturdays as part of the maintenance team weekend rotation.

    Manage all OSHA regulated codes, directives, and guidelines as mandated by federal, state, and local regulations as assigned.

    Manage the safe operation of school transportation equipment, grounds, and equipment

    Respond to burglar and fire alarms and other emergencies as required

    Effectively manage budgets as assigned

    Complete community service projects with students when requested

    Assist in the operation of the facilities in an energy-efficient and cost-effective manner

    Effectively participate as a member of the maintenance team and manage the licensing and compliance issues of and for that team.

    Perform all other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Skills and Competencies:

    Mechanical/electrical background preferred

    Landscaping experience preferred

    Ability to lift 50 pounds repeatedly

    Ability to safely climb ladders and inspect equipment and roofs

    Must be able to perform normal maintenance duties that require physical activities such as bending, twisting, turning, crawling, working at a desk, typing, and standing

    Be flexible, available, and able to report to work as needed, including night duty, extra hours, reporting for early morning snow removal when needed, etc.

    Communicate effectively to all constituencies, both verbally and in writing.

    Possess skills necessary to prioritize a number of projects simultaneously and manage budgets, organize information logically, analyze/solve problems, meet deadlines.

    Ability to use good judgment and discretion outside the scope of normal job duties and in emergency situations.

    Certifications Ability to obtain and maintain school bus license and transport students as needed Valid driver's license Hazard communication program designated person and trainer (federal law) Ability to obtain and maintain a Building Operator Certification Ability to obtain 30-hour OSHA certification
