    SUMMARY

Set-up, adjust and operate automatic screw machines, manual turret lathes and/or Modern Bar, to machine a wide variety of parts and details to close tolerance (+/- .001”) and finish requirements. Plan and make multi-tooled set-ups or chuck and fixture work. Select speed, feeds, cams, tooling arrangement and operating sequences for new, short run and standard work where procedures are not specified. Adapt standard cams and tooling; devise methods of machining unusual and special work of intricate design.

Plan and improvise multi-tooled set-ups for special work. Diagnose and remedy operating and tooling difficulties, grind tools to meet varying conditions and material. May operate more than two machines and deburr, cycles permitting. Also, occasionally set-up machines for operation by others. Work from drawings, specifications and job layouts. Use a variety of precision measuring instruments. Proceed with minimum supervision and direction. Work is subject to process and final inspection.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reads blueprint or job order for product specifications such as dimensions, tolerances, number of parts to be machined, and tooling instructions such as cutting speeds, feed rates, depth of cuts, and cutting tools to be used.

Positions and secures specified collets, bushings, and stock pushers onto stock feeding mechanism and loads bar stock into feeding mechanism.

Installs and adjusts specified cams, gears, and stops to control stock and tool movements at each station.

Positions and secures tools in tool holders.

Sets cutting speeds and feed rates.

Moves controls to cycle machine through settings, stopping machine and adjusting tool positions and machine controls to allow for operating factors such as timing, clearance between moving parts, and chip removal.

Starts machine, observes operation, and inspects first run and sample workpiece to ensure machining conforms to specifications.

Manually manipulates turret lathe controls to set up and produce finish parts.

    Replaces worn tools.

Operates bench grinder to sharpen tools.

    Machines nonmetallic materials.

    Performs deburring operations as required.
