Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical engineering, with a focus on rail equipment and rolling stock. This role involves designing, analyzing, and overseeing the maintenance and overhaul of railcars and locomotives, ensuring they meet industry standards and client requirements. Additionally, the successful candidate will lead the Continuous Improvement team, driving initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness, and applying ISO and Lean principles and practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and test mechanical components and systems for railcars and locomotives.
Conduct detailed analysis and calculations to ensure the integrity and performance of mechanical systems.
Support the maintenance, refurbishment, and overhaul projects of rail equipment.
Lead the Continuous Improvement team to identify, evaluate, and implement process improvements.
Apply Lean principles and practices to improve operational processes and outcomes.
Collaborate with mechanical maintenance personnel, electricians, other mechanical engineers, and technical support personnel.
Prepare procedures, engineering change requests, technical specifications, reports, and documentation for engineering projects.
Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and client specifications.
Provide technical support and troubleshooting for mechanical systems.
Participate in field inspections, testing, and commissioning of rail equipment.
Manage and monitor project timelines, budgets, and resources.
Promote a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the team.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in mechanical engineering, preferably in the rail or heavy equipment industry.
Experience leading or participating in continuous improvement initiatives.
Strong knowledge and experience with Six Sigma principles and practices.
Six Sigma certification (Green Belt, Black Belt, or higher) preferred.
High mechanical aptitude and creativity.
Knowledge of electrical and control systems.
Demonstrated ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.
Willingness to work on mechanical systems in the field.
Good personality and ability to interact with team members of various levels.
Ability to climb up ladders and onto equipment.
Ability to lift at least 25 lbs.
Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
Proficiency in CAD software and other engineering tools.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Willingness to travel for project inspections and client meetings.
