    POSITION TITLE: SUPPLIER QUALITY ENGINEER

    SHIFT: Monday – Friday; 8 – 4:00 pm; flexible

    SUMMARY

    Our supplier quality engineering team guards plant quality through a hands-on approach. Like SQEs everywhere, we issue, track, resolve, and monitor our quality concerns to suppliers, prevent future issues through the PPAP process, and work collaboratively with sourcing, engineering, and the greater QA team.  Unlike some SQEs experiences, our team spends 40%-60% of work hours on the plant floor where the issues are identified, defined, and eventually monitored for resolution.  While some day travel to suppliers is involved, the day in and day out centers on driving honest KPI improvement through collaborative relationships, investigating nonconformances to actionable dispositions, and driving effective correction action plans with suppliers.  SQEs are the face of the plant to our suppliers, the face of suppliers to our sourcing team, and facilitators of APQP discussion for the home team. 

    JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Lead and coordinate communication with Enerpac US, Supplier Quality and QA depts on all Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and supplier non-conforming parts, supplier corrective actions and continuous improvement activities.
    • Communicate and manage relationships between Enerpac and internal and external suppliers around the world. Drive supplier quality improvement activities and Supplier Quality continuous improvement.
    • Work closely with Enerpac QA, our sourcing team, and engineering to achieve APQP objectives with Enerpac suppliers to assess and ensure supplier capability to meet established performance objectives including:
    • Coordination with MRB (Material Review Board) timely disposition of suspect materials.
    • Timely facilitation of production needs.
    • Work with suppliers to improve supplier performance metrics relative to Supplier PPMs and scorecards.
    • Participate and contribute on New Product Development teams.
    • Support Enerpac Global, Sourcing, Quality, Engineering, Purchasing members.
    • Hands on disposition of suspected supplier nonconforming products, including the occasional sorting or rework.

     

    SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

    • Lead problem solving and quality improvement activities with suppliers systematic problem-solving techniques and 6-sigma principles
    • Knowledge/experience with:
      • Manufacturing processes, metal cutting, plastic injection molding, metal fabrication, electronics
      • Proficiency reading GD&T, engineering drawings, and specifications
      • Quality Management Systems, able to do training as needed with suppliers - required
    • Experienced with improvement tools including capability analysis, DOE, FMEAS, Manufacturing Control Plans, required
    • Strong verbal, written, and electronic communication skills
    • Use resourcefulness and initiative to make decisions and take actions,
    • A track record of risk reduction and contingencies planning, (to avoid material shortages or losses, alternative processes, new technologies costs and other related factors - preferred
    • Work independently and effectively on multiple projects in a fast-paced environment - required
    • Analytical and personal computing skills, specifically using Microsoft Office Applications ERP systems
    • Working Knowledge of Oracle applications is a plus – preferred

    EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

    Bachelor’s degree in a Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Technology or other related field, with 2 years’ experience in the manufacturing processing of raw materials, manufactured components and mechanical equipment or an equivalent combination of education and experience

    EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

    Experience in establishing and maintaining business relationships with suppliers to enhance short- and long-term quality improvements.

    Employee may have to lift documents/work materials up to 30 pounds in weight. Employee will have to be able to walk/climb to a variety of primary work locations, including traveling by air/auto to remote sites. Employee will need to listen, understand, and speak with team members in person, telephonically, and electronically at all levels within a diverse workforce and with supported organizations. Employee is able to work in front of a personal computer and telephone for long periods of time.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    Primary work environment is temperature-controlled office setting but may also be visiting different manufacturing facilities where following appropriate safety protocols at the location would be required. Employee is exposed to elevated levels of noise on the plant floor.
