Job Description

Summary : The Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Technician is responsible for operating and maintaining an industrial WWTP. This includes water management in the process water loop, Quencher water loop, cooling water loop and blow down system. Ensures discharge from the blow down system is in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations which include sampling, onsite testing, monitoring, and recordkeeping. Conducts operator preventative maintenance and repairs. Disposes of wastes generated at the WWTP in accordance with local, state, and federal guidelines. Works during an assigned shift in a safe, continuous, and efficient manner while maintaining environmental, safety and housekeeping standards .

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may also be assigned .

• Operates blow down system
• Monitors process water and quencher water systems.
• Monitors processes and equipment utilizing gauges and instrumentation.
• Conducts Bench Testing of water samples
• Operates and Maintains Sampling Equipment
• Maintains and Calibrates Instrumentation.
• Monitors chemical addition to process water, quencher water, cooling water and blow down system.
• Oversees offloading of chemicals and changeover of chemical containers.
• Monitors Cooling Water and adds chemical as needed.
• Recordkeeping of pertinent data.
• Completes safety inspections and other documentation as necessary.
• Operate Sludge Filter Press
• Operate heavy mobile equipment.
• Operate Roll-Off Truck
• Troubleshoots operational issues which include equipment malfunctioning, water balancing, and maintaining compliance in the blow down system.
• Monitors equipment for potential failures and submits maintenance requests for any needed repairs.
• Assists in maintenance of the WWTP
• Assists in chemical management and ordering
• Assists in project planning and management at the WWTP
• Assists with Environmental Sampling and Inspections
• Assists with preparing and shipping of waste
• Responds to off-hour alarms.
• Keeps supervisor informed of problems as they arise.
• Fosters positive work relationships.
• Works in a safe manner and complies with all Company policies, procedures, and practices.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience : High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Experience in manufacturing, heavy industry, or WWTP environment preferred.

Computer Skills: Computer literate; proficient with Microsoft Windows, MS Office programs and applications for word processing, email, database management and spreadsheets.

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret equipment manuals, general technical instructions, work instructions, operating procedures, and Company policies. Ability to document data, complete forms and prepare routine reports. Ability to speak effectively, present information clearly and respond to questions.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as mass, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume and apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Mechanical Skills : Ability to understand the use of machines and tools and diagnose and correct equipment malfunction. Has thorough knowledge of mechanical equipment; has working knowledge of preventive maintenance and repair on basic machinery. Has considerable knowledge of operating principles and practices and maintenance requirements of treatment and pumping equipment and machinery.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, schedule or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and solve practical problems.

Other Skills: Skill in operating heavy mobile equipment.
