    Mechanic Helper

Lynx Cat Mountain Quarry keeps contractors supplied with granite aggregate from our Hinkley operation. As Mechanic Helper you keep crushers, loaders, and haul trucks running so rock leaves the pit on schedule. Downtime here stops production; your work keeps it moving.

    Performance Objectives

    • Complete daily walk-around inspections and fluid checks on all mobile and plant equipment so the lead mechanic can start repairs before the first load of the day.
    • Assist in scheduled preventive maintenance so unplanned downtime stays under 8 hours per week on critical crushers and loaders.
    • Fetch parts, tools, and fluids and stage them at the job so repair time drops by at least 20 percent versus working alone.
    • Help diagnose common diesel, hydraulic, and electrical faults under direction and document findings so the same issue does not recur.
    • Keep the shop and service truck organized, inventory parts, and log work so the next shift starts with everything in place.
    • Learn one new repair procedure each month and perform it independently within 90 days.

    Environment & Resources

You report to the Lead Mechanic on a small 11-50 person crew. Work is split between an open-air shop and the quarry floor in desert heat and dust. You have standard hand tools, a service truck, and parts budget for common wear items. Heavy equipment and plant assets are on site; you will not operate production machines until trained.

    Essential Qualifications

    • Mechanical aptitude shown by prior work on engines, hydraulics, or farm/construction equipment.
    • Ability to lift 50 lb, work on your feet, and tolerate heat, dust, and noise for a full shift.
    • Valid California driver's license and clean record for driving the service truck.
    • Willingness to learn diesel, hydraulic, and basic electrical systems on the job.
    • High-school diploma or equivalent; welding or CDL a plus but not required.

    Role Selling Points

    • Hands-on training on real quarry iron instead of classroom theory.
    • Small crew means you see every machine and every repair, not just one specialty.
    • Direct impact: when you finish a job the plant starts producing again that same day.
    • Outdoor work in the Mojave with a team that values reliability over titles.
