About Marcurius Multi-Mission Solutions
Marcurius Multi-Mission Solutions is a fast-growing Defense technology company headquartered in Clearwater, Florida. Founded by US and UK veterans, Marcurius brings decades of frontline experience across Special Operations and Intelligence missions, with deep expertise in asymmetric warfare and the real-world employment of unmanned systems.
Marcurius is building a new kind of unmanned systems company- multi-domain, multi-platform, and mission-driven. We fuse battle-proven technologies, resilient command-and-control architectures, and operator-led doctrine to deliver capabilities that work in contested environments. Our initial focus is the rapid fielding of advanced Unmanned Surface Vessels (USVs) for modern maritime operations.
Role Overview
Marcurius is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the development and production of our autonomous maritime platforms and related equipment.
This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who can take a defined objective and independently turn it into a practical, fabrication-ready mechanical design. You will own mechanical design work from concept through CAD development, engineering decisions, drawings, prototype and production build support, and subsequent design updates.
You will work closely with engineering, production, technicians, fabricators, and suppliers to ensure designs are not only technically sound but can also be manufactured, assembled, integrated, and maintained effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop mechanical parts and complex assemblies in SolidWorks , from initial concepts through released designs.
- Produce clear, accurate engineering drawings, bills of materials, and specifications suitable for fabrication and assembly.
- Select appropriate materials, hardware, fits, and tolerances based on load, operating environment, manufacturing method, inspection requirements, and service conditions.
- Translate sometimes ambiguous engineering objectives into practical mechanical concepts and complete designs.
- Evaluate design trade-offs, document key assumptions, and make sound, defensible engineering decisions.
- Work directly with fabricators, suppliers, technicians, and production personnel throughout prototype and production builds.
- Support hands-on fit checks and integration activities on vessels and on the shop floor.
- Identify and resolve fit, manufacturability, fabrication, and assembly issues discovered during builds.
- Incorporate as-built feedback and maintain design revisions so released engineering information accurately reflects the product being built.
- Communicate technical progress, dependencies, design decisions, and risks clearly and early.
- Support continuous improvement of mechanical designs based on build, test, and operational feedback.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Approximately 3–6 years of relevant mechanical design experience.
- Strong hands-on experience with SolidWorks , including part modeling, complex or large assemblies, drawing creation, and design modifications.
- Practical knowledge of engineering drawings, dimensioning and tolerancing, materials, fasteners, machining, sheet metal, and general fabrication methods.
- Experience taking mechanical designs through prototype and/or production builds.
- Experience resolving real-world fit, fabrication, assembly, or manufacturability issues in collaboration with technicians or shop personnel.
- Ability to work effectively with limited oversight, take ownership of an objective, manage ambiguity, make reasoned engineering decisions, and deliver a complete design.
- Strong organizational skills, clear technical communication, and reliable follow-through.
Preferred Experience
- Mechanical design experience within the marine or small-craft industry.
- Vessel integration or mechanical systems integration experience.
- Experience designing equipment for harsh or demanding operating environments.
- Understanding of corrosion-aware material selection.
- Practical familiarity with machining operations and fabrication processes.
- Experience working directly with technicians, machinists, welders, fabricators, or production teams.
What Success Looks Like
You are comfortable taking ownership of a mechanical design rather than working only on isolated CAD tasks. You can move from an engineering objective to a practical design, create fabrication-ready documentation, work directly with the people building the product, and make sensible engineering decisions when real-world build conditions require changes.
You combine strong CAD capability with practical engineering judgment and understand that a successful design must work not only on screen, but also on the shop floor and in the field.
Work Location
This is an on-site position based at Marcurius headquarters in Clearwater, Florida. The role requires close collaboration with engineering and production teams and regular hands-on involvement with prototype and production builds.
