About PBD
Poindexter by Design is a mechanical engineering firm that eliminates the bottlenecks keeping innovative hardware trapped. We provide elite design, modeling, analysis, and documentation services so complex machinery succeeds on the factory floor and on time.
Since 2019, we've been a small, high-output team punching way above our weight. Our clients range from hardware startups to established OEMs. We're growing because the work keeps coming, and we need sharp engineers.
The Role
We're hiring a Mechanical Design Engineer who can own projects from concept through production-ready deliverables. Our work spans metal fabrication design (sheet metal, weldments), precision machined parts and assemblies, automation equipment, and everything in between. You don't need to be an expert in all of it, but you need deep experience in at least one of these areas and the ability to grow into others.
We're looking for a self-driven engineer prepared to think, make decisions, manage time, and deliver top-notch work. In return, you get real autonomy, a team that matches your effort, and a direct line between your output and your compensation growth.
What You'll Do
- Own mechanical design projects (or major portions) from concept through production-ready documentation
- Produce high-quality CAD models, drawings, and documentation
- Work directly with clients, maintaining relationships through reliable delivery and clear communication
- Collaborate with the engineering team on technical challenges while operating autonomously on assigned work
- Manage your time and deliverables within our project management system
- Contribute to process improvement and help build the systems for a growing team
What We're Looking For
- 5-10 years of mechanical design engineering experience
- Deep experience in one or more of: sheet metal design, weldment design, precision machined parts, assemblies, automation/equipment design, or GD&T documentation
- Expertise in SolidWorks or Onshape
- Detail-oriented and fast. We value both equally.
- Receptive to feedback and interested in learning
Bonus points:
- Experience in a consulting/services environment (multi-client, deadline-driven)
- Breadth across multiple design disciplines (fabrication + precision, for example)
- Injection molding or additive manufacturing design experience
- Background in custom machinery or automation
