    Overview of Role

    ZwitterCo is seeking an experienced Mechanical Designer to lead detailed design and layout development for standardized skidded and containerized water treatment systems (50–100 gpm range). This role is critical to transforming our container systems from project-based designs into a scalable, repeatable product platform.

    With support/guidance from the engineering team, the Designer will own 3D mechanical layouts, P&ID development and maintenance, container GA packages, fabrication drawing coordination, and standard design library development. This position directly supports schedule compression, platform standardization, and scalable growth.

    Key Responsibilities:

    ****Skidded and Containerized System Design

    • Develop detailed 3D layouts (SolidWorks preferred) for skidded and containerized treatment systems
    • Route piping systems and optimize space utilization within 40'–53' containers
    • Create and maintain GA drawings
    • Develop spool drawings and fabrication-level documentation

    P &ID Ownership

    • Create and maintain process P&IDs
    • Ensure alignment between P&IDs and 3D layouts
    • Maintain instrument lists, valve schedules, and line lists
    • Support design reviews and change control process

    Standardization & Platform Development

    • Develop standardized 50 gpm and 100 gpm skidded and container platforms
    • Create reusable piping and equipment layout blocks
    • Maintain design libraries and drawing templates
    • Support productization efforts to reduce engineering iteration

    Fabricator Coordination

    • Issue IFC-quality drawing packages
    • Review and redline fabricator detail drawings
    • Resolve layout conflicts proactively
    • Support parallel procurement and fabrication strategies

    Continuous Improvement

    • Identify layout efficiencies to reduce build time
    • Support early-release long-lead procurement strategy
    • Contribute to engineering playbook development
    • Improve documentation quality and revision discipline

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering or Science discipline
    • 5+ years mechanical design experience in industrial systems
    • Technical proficiency in SolidWorks (required)
      • AutoCAD Plant 3D modeling
      • 2D drawing development
      • BOM development
      • Revision control discipline
    • Experience with skid-mounted or containerized equipment
    • Strong piping layout experience
    • Understanding of fabrication methods (welded SS, carbon steel, FRP)
    • Ability to read and develop P&IDs

    Preferred Experience

    • Water treatment or process systems background (RO, UF, filtration, pumps)
    • Experience working with contract fabricators
    • Knowledge of industrial valves, instrumentation, and pump selection
    • Experience with change management / ECO process
    • Exposure to electrical layout coordination

    Location, Travel and Compensation

    This position can be located in Woburn, MA on a hybrid basis, but can also be remote, reporting directly to the Vice President of Engineering Operations.

    This role requires only occasional travel to company headquarters in Woburn, MA for training and team building.
