Our client, a growing building automation and controls integrator, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with HVAC Controls experience to join their team. This firm specializes in delivering advanced automation and energy-efficient solutions across a range of facilities, including government, industrial, and commercial environments. In this role, the Mechanical Engineer will apply mechanical systems expertise and controls knowledge to design, implement, and optimize building automation systems from concept through commissioning.
Responsibilities:
Design and layout HVAC control systems, including panel schematics, device selection, installation details, and sequences of operation.
Develop comprehensive control strategies for mechanical systems, ensuring alignment with project specifications and performance goals.
Program controllers, databases, and user interfaces to deliver reliable and efficient system operation.
Generate reports, trend logs, and system documentation to support performance monitoring and client requirements.
Conduct site assessments to integrate new systems with existing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing infrastructure.
Review mechanical plans for coordination with building automation systems.
Oversee controls-related construction activities to ensure compliance with design intent and specifications.
Stay current with applicable codes and standards, and adapt designs as needed to meet site-specific conditions.
Develop software interfaces for HVAC equipment using standard communication protocols (e.g., BACnet, Modbus).
Coordinate integration with facility-wide control systems.
Troubleshoot complex system issues, including both mechanical and controls-related problems.
Support commissioning efforts and supervise third-party testing as needed.
Provide training to junior staff and assist with client training sessions.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred or willingness to obtain.
3+ years of experience in HVAC and controls design.
Background in commercial, institutional, or industrial mechanical systems.
Familiarity with building automation systems and HVAC control sequences.
Proficiency with design tools such as AutoCAD, Revit MEP, or SolidWorks.
Strong understanding of HVAC principles, including thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and psychrometrics.
Experience with a variety of HVAC systems (e.g., chilled/hot water, VRF, VAV, boilers, steam).
Knowledge of controls hardware and communication protocols.
Compensation:
Base salary in the 100k - 135k/year range
