Job Summary The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design, analysis, and implementation of mechanical systems and components. This role supports projects from concept through construction, installation, testing, and commissioning while ensuring compliance with applicable codes, safety standards, and project specifications. The Mechanical Engineer collaborates with internal teams, consultants, and contractors to deliver efficient, cost-effective, and high-quality engineering solutions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Design, develop, and review mechanical systems including HVAC, plumbing, piping, mechanical equipment, and related components
Prepare engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical documentation
Review and interpret architectural, structural, and electrical drawings to ensure system coordination
Support project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and cost control efforts
Conduct site visits to observe installation progress, resolve field issues, and verify compliance with design documents
Review shop drawings, submittals, and RFIs for mechanical scope
Ensure designs comply with applicable codes and standards (ASHRAE, ASME, NEC, NFPA, local building codes)
Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and suppliers to resolve technical issues
Perform system testing, commissioning support, and performance evaluations
Identify opportunities for value engineering and energy efficiency improvements
Maintain accurate project records and provide technical reports as required
Required Qualifications
MUST HAVE COMMERCIAL CONSTRUCTION EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
Minimum 8 years of mechanical engineering experience (construction, MEP, industrial, or manufacturing preferred)
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, or similar design software
Strong understanding of mechanical systems and construction methods
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
Knowledge of applicable engineering codes and regulations
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Must be willing to travel from time to time
Preferred Qualifications
Professional Engineer (PE) license
Experience in commercial construction or large-scale projects
Familiarity with energy modeling and sustainability standards
Experience working with multidisciplinary project teams
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Combination of office and field work at active job sites
Ability to travel to project sites as required
Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and navigate construction environments
