About FreePower
FreePower is building the next generation of wireless power technology - enabling true free-position charging for multiple devices without precise alignment. Our products integrate advanced electrical, mechanical, and software systems into seamless user experiences, and are deployed in real-world environments such as countertops, furniture, and consumer electronics.
We are a small, fast-moving team focused on solving complex engineering challenges and bringing innovative hardware products to market.
About the Role
We are looking for a hands-on Mechanical Engineer to join our team and play a key role in the design, development, and prototyping of innovative hardware products. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working across the full product lifecycle - from concept through production - and thrives in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies using CAD tools (primarily SolidWorks)
- Build and iterate prototypes using in-house tools such as 3D printing, laser cutting, and general shop equipment
- Translate concepts into manufacturable designs with a strong focus on Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA)
- Develop enclosures, packaging solutions, and structural components for consumer and industrial products
- Work closely with cross-functional teams (electrical, firmware, and manufacturing) to ensure seamless product integration
- Support vendor engagement, including part sourcing, fabrication, and tooling discussions
- Conduct testing, validation, and iterative improvements based on performance and reliability data
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- Minimum of 2–5 years of experience in mechanical/product design
- Proficiency in CAD software, preferably SolidWorks
- Hands-on experience with prototyping tools (3D printing, laser cutting, machining, etc.)
- Strong understanding of materials, tolerancing, and mechanical design principles
- Experience with Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and moldability considerations
- Familiarity with injection molding, sheet metal design, and/or tooling processes
- Experience with stepper motors and linear motion systems
- Ability to move quickly from concept to prototype with attention to detail
Nice to Have
- Experience with consumer electronics or hardware startups
- Experience with mechanical shops and equipment for prototyping
- Knowledge of thermal design or structural analysis
- Experience working with external manufacturers and overseas vendors
- Basic understanding of electronics packaging and integration
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary Range: $100,000 – $130,000 (depending on experience)
- Equity: Stock options included
- Health Benefits: Medical, dental, and vision coverage
- Time Off: Paid vacation and holidays
