Overview
Mechanical Engineers in this role will design mechanical systems and utilities for industrial facilities, with a focus on HVAC, piping, plumbing, and fire protection systems. Projects span from conceptual design through detailed engineering, with a strong emphasis on pharmaceutical and biotechnology facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Estimate heating and cooling load requirements for HVAC systems.
- Calculate external static pressure for HVAC systems.
- Prepare HVAC zoning, pressurization, and air flow diagrams, as well as ductwork layouts, details, and elevations.
- Size and select equipment appropriate for project requirements.
- Perform mechanical utility calculations and establish system requirements.
- Collect preliminary cut sheets and vendor quotes for new equipment.
- Prepare general arrangement drawings and construction/equipment specifications.
- Create piping P&IDs, layouts, details, isometrics, and elevations.
- Review fire protection system requirements.
- Calculate hydronic piping pressure drops and size pumping systems.
- Perform plumbing fixture load calculations and determine plumbing requirements.
- Stay current with relevant codes and standards, and ensure compliance.
- Verify field information on-site as needed.
- Participate in interdisciplinary project coordination meetings.
- Collaborate with team members to develop basis of design documents and engineering narratives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) certification required.
- 10–15 years of experience with engineering/design firms; cGMP design experience preferred.
- Up to 5 years of CAD and/or Revit exposure preferred.
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
