Mechanical Engineer – HVAC, Hydronics & Geothermal
Major Heating & Air Conditioning 📍 Denver Metro / Front Range, Colorado
About the Role
Major Heating & Air Conditioning designs and builds mechanical systems that have to work—under real conditions, in real buildings. Our projects include hydronic heating, geothermal systems, high-performance HVAC, radiant floors, domestic hot water, and integrated controls across residential and commercial applications in Colorado.
We are adding a Mechanical Engineer to support system design, execution, and long-term performance. This role works directly with leadership, project managers, and field teams to ensure systems are engineered correctly, installed properly, and operate as intended.
Responsibilities
Design HVAC, hydronic, geothermal, and domestic hot water systems for residential and commercial projects
Perform heat loss / heat gain calculations (Manual J, room-by-room, and commercial load calculations)
Develop mechanical layouts, piping schematics, and equipment selections
Support geothermal loop field design and system coordination
Review equipment submittals, shop drawings, and installation details
Assist with commissioning, system startup, and troubleshooting
Provide technical support to field teams during installation and service
Ensure designs comply with applicable codes and engineering best practices
Contribute to internal engineering standards and documentation
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent practical experience
Experience designing HVAC and mechanical systems
Strong understanding of hydronic systems, boilers, pumps, heat exchangers, and controls
Familiarity with furnaces, heat pumps, geothermal systems, and air distribution
Ability to think practically and adapt designs to field conditions
Clear communication skills and attention to detail
Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus, not required.
