    **About the Team
    ** The Technology Team enables decarbonization at scale by driving innovation in process development, R&D, and technology deployment. The Technology Team also provides technical support to internal and external stakeholders, ensuring that Mote’s technologies perform safely, efficiently, and reliably.

    About the Role

    The Mechanical Engineer will support the development, installation, modification, and maintenance of Mote’s Advanced Testing Center (ATC) that enables testing and validation of advanced process innovations.

    Reporting to the Director of Process Engineering, this role will lead mechanical engineering activities for the ATC, including design, fabrication, installation, maintenance, and operational improvements. The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-orientated, and passionate about safely building and operating innovative systems that advance Mote’s mission.

    Responsibilities

    • Perform design calculations and produce design/fabrication drawings.
    • Specify equipment and materials, and solicit, review, and evaluate vendor proposals and purchase orders.
    • Supervise and support installation, commissioning, and maintenance activities to ensure safe and reliable ATC operations.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues related to ATC operations.
    • Implement system modifications driven by R&D priorities while maintaining safety and performance standards.
    • Collaborate closely with process engineers, technicians, and contractors to ensure smooth and compliant project execution.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of local (Los Angeles) fabrication, construction, and safety regulations.
    • 5 years (minimum) experience in a fabrication, installation, or plant operations environment.
    • Hands-on experience with pilot-to-demo scale mechanical systems and equipment.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience designing and fabricating process modules or pilot-to-demo scale systems.
    • Experience with systems handling biomass, oxygen, hydrogen, syngas, or other flammable gases.
    • Welding certification or demonstrable welding/fabrication skills.
    • Working knowledge of electrical and instrumentation systems.

    Pay and Benefits

    At Mote, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow within a role. Your base pay depends on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
