    About the Team

    The Technology Team enables decarbonization at scale by leading process development, R&D, and technology deployment. The team supports internal and external stakeholders by ensuring that Mote’s technologies operate safely, efficiently, and reliably – from early testing through commercial deployment.

    About the Role

    The Mechanical Engineer will support the development, installation, modification, and maintenance of Mote’s Advanced Testing Center (ATC) that enables testing and validation of advanced process innovations, as well as support the scale-up to a commercial module design.

    Reporting to the Director of Process Engineering, this role will lead mechanical engineering activities for the ATC, including design, fabrication, installation, maintenance, and operational improvements.

    The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-orientated, and passionate about safely building and operating innovative systems that advance Mote’s mission.

    Responsibilities

    • Perform design calculations*, develop mechanical data sheets for rotating, static and other all mechanical equipment, and produce design/fabrication drawings.
    • Specify equipment and materials, and solicit, review, and evaluate vendor proposals and purchase orders.
    • Collaborate closely with process engineers, technicians, and contractors to ensure smooth and compliant project execution.

    *These include, for example, wall thickness code calculations, HVAC calculations, piping stress calculations, structural steel sizing calculations and foundation load calculations.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of local (Los Angeles) fabrication, construction, and safety regulations.
    • 5 years (minimum) experience designing equipment, piping and or structural systems.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience designing and fabricating process modules or pilot-to-demo scale systems.
    • Experience with systems handling biomass, oxygen, hydrogen, syngas, or other flammable gases.
    • Hands-on shop or field experience.
    • Working knowledge of electrical and instrumentation systems.

    Pay and Benefits

    At Mote, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow within a role. Your base pay depends on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

    At Mote, under favorable financial conditions, employees are eligible for additional rewards, including merit increases and stock bonuses. These awards are allocated based on individual performance.
