    Job Summary
    The Mechanical Engineering Intern will work under the direction of a Mechanical Engineering Supervisor to support mechanical design and documentation activities throughout the design and manufacturing process. This role will assist with creating 3D models, drawings, and bills of materials for mechanical components and assemblies used in power distribution/switchgear products. The intern will gain exposure to industry standards, manufacturing methods, and testing of finished products while collaborating closely with engineering, production, and quality teams. **

    Essential Duties**
    • Perform all duties in a safe manner and promote a “Safety First” mindset in all tasks.
    • Learn and apply the company's mechanical design standards, drafting practices, and manufacturing processes.
    • Assist in the selection of mechanical materials and components (e.g., enclosures, mounting hardware, brackets, bus supports, cooling components, fasteners) under the guidance of senior engineers.
    • Help create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) for mechanical components and assemblies in the MRP/ERP system for specific projects.
    • Assist in developing and revising 3D models and 2D drawings (e.g., sheet metal parts, welded assemblies, mounting plates, structural frames) using CAD software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar.
    • Prepare and update technical documentation, including assembly drawings, detail drawings, exploded views, and work instructions to support manufacturing and assembly.
    • Support engineers in reviewing project specifications and customer requirements to ensure mechanical designs meet dimensional, environmental, and structural criteria.
    • Assist with basic cost analysis and value engineering, such as comparing material options, simplifying designs, and identifying opportunities to reduce cost and improve manufacturability under supervision.
    • Support prototyping, fit checks, and mechanical testing activities, documenting findings, nonconformances, and design updates.
    • Participate in design reviews, project meetings, and continuous improvement activities with engineering, production, and quality teams.
    • Perform other related duties and small mechanical engineering tasks as assigned to support ongoing projects. **

    Knowledge, Skills, Abilities**
    • Foundational understanding of mechanical design principles, including statics and strength of materials.
    • Familiarity with mechanical components and fabrication methods, such as sheet metal, machined parts, welded assemblies, and fasteners.
    • Experience with 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, or similar) and the ability to create parts, assemblies, and engineering drawings (coursework or project experience acceptable).
    • Understanding of or willingness to learn relevant industry standards and practices, such as GD&T, tolerance analysis, and design for manufacturability (DFM).
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); exposure to MRP/ERP systems is a plus.
    • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to ask questions, seek feedback, and learn from senior engineers.
    • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and 3D models and relate them to physical parts and assemblies.
    • Clear written and verbal communication skills for documenting design decisions and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
    • Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to manage multiple small tasks across different projects.
    • Team-oriented mindset with the ability to take direction and work independently on well-defined tasks. **

    Required / Preferred Education**
    • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field (e.g., Mechanical Engineering Technology).
    • Completion of core coursework in statics, strength of materials, machine design is preferred.
