DESCRIPTION
The Pulse and Prime Power Group at Leidos currently has an opening for a MECHANICAL ENGINEERING INTERN in our Albuquerque, NM office. This is a great opportunity to support state of the art development of laser and high-power microwave technologies.
Primary Responsibilities
Provides engineering and scientific support to research, design, and development activities for pulse power machines, systems, and components. Performs as a member of an integrated project team (IPT) to develop solutions to complex technical problems. Uses and applies standard mechanical engineering theories, and techniques. Contributes to design, analysis, and drawing creation of mechanical systems. Works under the general supervision of a Senior Engineer and is judged by quality of work and timely completion of project tasks. Interacts with the project manager and explains technical work to customers. Documents work products in technical reports, white papers, and progress/status updates.
Basic Qualifications
Currently enrolled in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering at an accredited college or university with a 3.0 GPA or better
3D CAD Experience, (Solidworks preferred)
Proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and Outlook
Eager to learn new concepts and develop new skills and experience
Inquisitive mind who enjoys problem-solving
Ability to obtain and maintain an active security clearance
Preferred Qualifications
Experience operating 3D printers
Ability to develop mechanical drawings
Experience operating machine shop equipment (i.e. vertical endmills, lathes)
Experience assembling mechanical systems
