  • Responsibilities

    Thompson First Group is currently seeking a qualified Mechanical Maintenance Manager or a local client in Spring Grove, PA. Candidates who have a background supervising or managing a large team of mechanics and millwrights are encouraged to apply. 

    Role and Responsibilities

    • Champions safety in every aspect of the position
    • Makes safety awareness part of everyday communications (Hazard Identification and Risk Reduction)
    • Assure the implementation and completion of accident investigation / corrective action steps
    • Actively participates in Leader Standard Work (Risk of the Shift, Daily Review of Production/Equipment Performance, Maintenance Daily Briefing, Etc.)
    • Represents the Maintenance Department in daily interactions with operational asset teams
    • Identifies and completes projects as assigned
    • Maintains effective relationships with Maintenance Shops to promote Best Practices
    • Champions Precision Work – Sets Expectations and Audits for Compliance
    • Provides mentoring, training, and coaching as required
    • Proactive in: Driving continuous improvement through PM/PdM (Reliability Improvements), 6S, workflow process, and other mill continuous improvement efforts
    • Enforces/Coaches the required discipline within the Root Cause Failure Analysis System
    • Ensures Environmental System process awareness and compliance.
    • Must maintain effective working relationships with operations, other maintenance personnel, vendors, contractors, and engineers
    • Performs purchasing duties as needed through effective and efficient interface with Storeroom and Procurement personnel
    • Writes and reviews purchase requisitions, reviews, and approves job invoices, authority to stock, audits invoices and VMI activities and manages spend in the maintenance department within approved budgets
    • Maintains needed staffing levels and skill sets
    • Responsible for succession planning
    • Input to all annual outages
    • Input to Capex process
    • Reviews work order backlog reports and actively engages in reducing the backlog
    • Recommends the replacement or addition of equipment to minimize maintenance costs and downtime
    • Understands and administers company policy
    • Evaluates and manages the collection of job feedback to improve future work
    • Must demonstrate effective communication skills throughout the organization
    • Executes Continuous Improvement programs, acts as a change agent
    • Follows a leadership team approach to resolving shop floor issues
    • Reviews and accepts all other duties as assigned
    • Reviews and continuously upgrades employee skills to meet the demands of new technology which are a critical part of this applicant’s responsibility and the cross functional learning to elevate the craft
    • Work closely with engineering, production, and other departments, at all levels of supervision, throughout the plant in making estimates, determining priorities, scheduling, and managing shop personnel
    • Must be able to manage deadlines, variable workloads, and be on call 24-hours when needed
    • Maintaining, developing, and monitoring mill systems, including ISO requirements
    • Attends and participates in the appropriate training for the use of fire extinguishing equipment and notification procedures should a small, containable fire ignite in the work area
    • Serves as a member of the Industrial Fire Team to mitigate risk and escalation of fires within the facility and provides assistance required by your craft

    General Requirements

    • SAP, SAP-PM or other software experience is preferred
    • Ability to work both independently and as a team member
    • Knowledge of safety hazards and appropriate precautions applicable to work assignments
    • Ability to wear respirator safety equipment
    • Ability to wear protective clothing as required by prevailing conditions
    • Ability to read, interpret and apply information from files, drawings, catalogs, reports and manuals.
    • Must possess and maintain a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license
