Mechanical Project Engineer – Mobile Systems Architecture

    Contract | Remote (U.S.)

An Engineering Role for People Who Design Systems That Actually Get Built

Our firm is partnering with an engineering organization developing rugged mobile platforms that integrate power, communications, and technical equipment into deployable field systems.

These platforms must do more than look good on a CAD screen.

They must be structurally sound, transportable, electrically integrated, and practical to fabricate.

The concept platform exists. Key components have been identified. The next step requires a mechanical engineer who can take the system from concept to real-world, buildable architecture.

This is not a traditional mechanical design role focused on individual parts.

This is a platform engineering role.

    The Challenge

You will help translate a working concept into a fully engineered mobile platform capable of supporting integrated electrical systems and operational payloads.

This includes designing and resolving the core mechanical architecture of the platform:

    • Chassis integration and superstructure design

    • Structural mounting for electrical systems and payload equipment

    • Weight distribution and towing dynamics

    • Mechanical layouts that align with electrical architecture

    • Fabrication-ready documentation for the build team

The work sits at the intersection of mechanical engineering, electrical integration, and practical fabrication.

If you have ever looked at a system design and thought:

"This works in theory, but the platform architecture still needs to be resolved."

This role was built for you.

    What You’ll Own

You will lead the mechanical architecture of the platform, including:

    Platform Structural Design

Develop the structural framework and superstructure that supports power systems, electronics, and operational payloads.

    Chassis Integration

Ensure the platform integrates correctly with the base chassis or trailer system, accounting for loads, vibration, and operational use.

    Weight Distribution & Transportability

Design for safe towing and transport, considering center of gravity, axle loading, and system stability.

    Mechanical Integration of Technical Systems

Coordinate mechanical design with electrical systems, ensuring equipment mounting, cable routing, cooling, and serviceability are properly addressed.

    Fabrication-Ready Engineering

Produce clear mechanical drawings and specifications that allow fabrication teams to build the platform efficiently and accurately.

    The Ideal Background

This role tends to attract engineers who have worked on mobile systems that integrate multiple technologies into a single platform.

Examples include engineers who have worked on:

    • Specialty trailers or mobile equipment platforms

    • Tactical or communications vehicles

    • Mobile power or generator systems

    • Broadcast or production trucks

    • Expedition or overland vehicle platforms

    • Industrial equipment platforms or field systems

    What Makes Someone Successful Here

You’re the kind of engineer who:

    • Understands how systems behave outside of CAD

    • Thinks about loads, mounting, vibration, and fabrication early in the design

    • Works comfortably with both engineers and fabrication teams

    • Enjoys solving problems that live between mechanical and electrical systems

Most importantly, you enjoy designing systems that move from concept to real hardware.

    Why This Role Is Interesting

Many engineering roles focus on a single subsystem.

This one focuses on the entire platform.

You will help shape the physical architecture that allows complex technical systems to function reliably in demanding environments.

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline

    • 5+ years of experience in mechanical systems design, platform engineering, or structural integration

    • Experience designing mobile platforms, trailers, vehicles, or ruggedized equipment systems

    • Proficiency with CAD tools such as SolidWorks, Inventor, Fusion 360, or similar platforms

    • Demonstrated experience producing fabrication-ready mechanical drawings

    Preferred Experience

    • Experience designing mobile infrastructure systems, specialized vehicles, or deployable platforms

    • Experience integrating power systems, electrical equipment, or technical payloads into mechanical platforms

    • Exposure to prototype builds, fabrication shops, or small-batch engineering environments
