  • Responsibilities

    Position Summary

    The Mechanical Superintendent is responsible for overseeing and directing all mechanical field activities on utility-scale solar projects, including racking, module installation, tracker systems, and balance of plant mechanical scopes. This position ensures the safe, timely, and cost-effective execution of mechanical work while maintaining the highest standards of quality, productivity, and compliance. The Mechanical Superintendent leads field crews and subcontractors, coordinating daily site operations to support successful project delivery.

    Key Responsibilities

    Project Execution & Oversight

    • Supervise daily mechanical installation activities, including racking assembly, torque tube installation, module mounting, trackers, and structural components.

    • Coordinate with civil and electrical superintendents to align work sequences and minimize conflicts.

    • Ensure mechanical construction activities meet design drawings, specifications, and manufacturer requirements.

    • Monitor crew productivity and progress against project schedules; implement corrective actions when needed.

    Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)

    • Promote and enforce site safety standards and compliance with OSHA regulations.

    • Conduct daily toolbox talks and routine safety inspections.

    • Identify, report, and mitigate hazards to maintain a safe work environment.

    Quality & Compliance

    • Perform inspections to verify proper installation of racking and modules.

    • Ensure torqueing, alignment, and assembly are completed per specifications and documented.

    • Coordinate with QA/QC team to address non-conformances and corrective actions.

    Team Leadership & Coordination

    • Manage mechanical foremen, crews, and subcontractors on site.

    • Provide direction, mentorship, and performance feedback to site staff.

    • Interface with engineering teams, vendors, and clients to resolve technical or logistical issues.

    Planning & Reporting

    • Assist in developing lookahead schedules and manpower plans.

    • Track and report daily progress, manpower utilization, and equipment needs.

    • Communicate project updates and risks to project leadership.

    Qualifications

    • Education & Experience

      • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or related field preferred (or equivalent field experience).

      • Minimum 7+ years of construction experience , with 3+ years in a supervisory/superintendent role.

      • Experience in utility-scale solar or renewable energy projects strongly preferred.

      • Background in structural steel, racking systems, or large-scale mechanical installation.

    • Technical Skills

      • Ability to read and interpret drawings, mechanical layouts, and installation manuals.

      • Familiarity with large-scale solar mechanical systems (trackers, fixed-tilt, and modules).

      • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and quality standards.

      • Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Procore, MS Project, Primavera P6).

      • Problem-solving mindset with adaptability to changing project conditions.

    Working Conditions

    • Field-based role on large solar construction sites.

    • Extended hours, weekends, and travel may be required based on project needs.
