    Position Overview

    The Mechanical Systems Commissioning Technician is responsible for testing, verifying, and optimizing mechanical systems on large commercial and industrial projects. You'll ensure that HVAC and hydronic systems perform to design intent and operate at peak efficiency—supporting successful project turnover and long-term client satisfaction.

    This position requires hands-on field expertise , strong mechanical and controls knowledge, and close coordination with project managers, engineers, TAB professionals, and controls vendors.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Conduct pre-functional and functional performance testing for HVAC, hydronic, and control systems.

    • Verify system operation against design intent, sequences of operation, and industry standards.

    • Collaborate with BAS/BMS vendors to validate setpoints, alarms, and control strategies.

    • Review and confirm Testing, Adjusting, and Balancing (TAB) results for air and water systems; resolve discrepancies as needed.

    • Maintain accurate commissioning documentation including plans, checklists, test forms, punch lists, and daily logs.

    • Interpret mechanical drawings, controls diagrams, and commissioning plans ; contribute to coordination and turnover meetings.

    • Support system startup, troubleshoot deficiencies, and perform retesting after corrective actions.

    • Participate in safety meetings, JHAs, and toolbox talks , maintaining strict OSHA compliance.

    Qualifications

    • Minimum 3 years of commissioning, startup, or TAB experience in commercial mechanical systems.

    • Hands-on knowledge of AHUs, VAVs, FCUs, chillers, boilers, cooling towers, pumps, and hydronic distribution systems.

    • Working familiarity with BAS/BMS platforms such as Siemens, Johnson Controls, Trane, or similar.

    • Ability to read and interpret mechanical and control schematics.

    • TAB certification (NEBB or AABC) preferred; commissioning certifications a plus.

    • OSHA 30 certification required (or must obtain upon hire).

    • Skilled with commissioning instruments including airflow hoods, manometers, hydronic gauges, and data loggers.

    • Must meet the physical requirements of commercial construction sites.

    • Valid driver's license and ability to pass background, MVR, and drug screening.
