Mechanical Technician - Industrial Robotics
Location: Auburn Hills, MI · Pay: $22.50–$24.50 · Type: Contract
If you have ever looked at an industrial robot and thought "I could build that," this contract role lets you prove it. Our client, an established industrial automation company, needs a Mechanical Technician to assemble, modify, test and ship robots and related equipment from engineering documents. You will turn prints into precise working machines, and the robots will mostly do what you tell them.
What you'll do
- Assemble and modify robots and related equipment from prints, illustrations and schematics
- Position, mount and secure robots and components exactly where the engineering drawings call for them
- Jog robots into position with a teach pendant when the job requires it
- Follow step-by-step build plans in order and record every in-process quality check
- Run functional tests per engineering guidelines and troubleshoot mechanical issues until things run right
- Disassemble and prepare finished equipment for shipment to customers
- Follow robot safety rules, including lockout/tagout and hazardous materials handling, and keep your workspace tidy
What you bring
- Bring at least 1 to 2 years in a mechanical role; more experience may qualify you for a higher level
- Hold a high school diploma or equivalent; trade school or an associate degree in mechanical engineering is a plus
- Use hand and power tools confidently, plus precision measuring instruments
- Read mechanical drawings and schematics, and handle basic math and computer data entry
- Know ISO 9001 quality requirements, and communicate clearly in speech and writing
- Show off maintenance, heavy equipment, automotive, machine building or engine repair experience; all of it translates here
- Earn bonus points for FANUC robot training, maintenance or mechanical tech certifications, or experience leading small teams
Good to know
Most of the work happens in a clean, well-lit, air-conditioned facility, with occasional assignments at customer sites and overtime based on business needs. Expect to lift up to 50 pounds and operate scissor lifts, cranes and forklifts, with forklift, crane, fall restraint and rigging training provided. Bring steel toe boots and your own rolling, lockable toolbox on day one (a tooling list is provided), because borrowing a coworker's 10mm socket is a fast way to lose a friend.
