Position Summary:
The Medication Technician is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure delivery of
medications and health related items to the residents within the Community. Medication
Technicians are responsible for supporting residents through the safe and compliant assistance
with self-administration of medications, in accordance with RCFE Title 22 regulations. The
Medication Technician assists in developing, coordinating, and performing the tasks on the
service plan according to the residents' preferences and abilities. The Medication Technician
serves as a supervisor and monitors all the caregivers on the same shift.
** Reports to: Medication Room Coordinator**
_ Essential Duties and Responsibilities:_
Medication Administration
● Responsible for their medication tray/cart. Ensure medications are prepared, organized,
and secure for all assigned residents.
● Assist residents with self-administration of medications per RCFE Title 22 guidelines and
community protocols.
● Authorized to assist residents with self-administration of medications per Title 22 RCFE
regulations.
● Maintain, transcribe, and document all medications in the Medication Administration
Record (MAR) per policy.
● Obtain, clarify, and verify physician orders for medications and services.
● Assist with medication audits and inventory as directed.
● Maintain a neat, secure, and orderly medication room.
● Order, store, and dispose of medications in accordance with regulations and community
procedures.
● Communicate with physicians, pharmacies, and caregivers regarding medication orders,
changes, or clarification.
● Document medication pass and follow community protocols.
_ Resident Care & Support:_
● Receive report from the previous shift and Medication Technician to ensure continuity of
care.
● Adheres to and conveys the philosophy of Assisted Living & Memory Care. Practices in
accordance with state regulations.
● Understands basic RCFE standards: resident rights, elder abuse prevention, infection
control, redirection techniques, and general aging awareness.
● Assists residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), environmental orientation, vital
signs, first aid, and wound care. Conducts and documents ADLs as needed (bathing,
dressing, grooming, toileting), fulfilling Level 2 caregiver duties.
● Review daily Communication Log and Shower Schedule for resident assignments and
care changes.
● Escort residents and support them with activities as needed.
● Assist in meal service and dining duties as directed.
● Ensure all services provided, including those outside contracted care, are documented.
Notify the Executive Director and Health & Wellness Director of services rendered.
_ Documentation & Communication:_
● Accurately record progress notes, services rendered, and care updates throughout the day
in ALIS.
● Follow infection control and safety standards; document care activities, observations, and
incidents in accordance with policies.
● Monitor and report changes in resident physical, cognitive, or emotional conditions to
supervisors and document appropriately in ALIS.
● Complete and submit incident reports, change-of-condition updates, and service
adjustments per protocol.
● Maintain open communication with the IDT and community leadership regarding
resident status.
_ Environmental Safety & Protocols:_
● Maintains a clean, neat, comfortable, and safe environment for residents, staff, and
visitors, including housekeeping duties as assigned.
● Ensures doors and alarms are activated and monitored as needed.
● Reports deficiencies observed in resident rooms or common areas to the appropriate
department supervisor and completes incident reports as needed.
● Responds to emergencies and follows community protocols, including fire, elopement,
and disaster procedures.
● Avoids waste or misuse of equipment and supplies.
_ Caregiver Supervision & Team Support:_
● Provides shift direction and support to caregivers, ensuring task completion and
adherence to care plans.
● Supports onboarding, training, and supervision of new and existing medication technician
and caregiver staff.
● Acts as lead support during the shift, escalating concerns to the Director as needed.
● Performs unpleasant tasks with grace; works cooperatively with supervisors and displays
willingness to assist co-workers.

Additional Duties
● Wear a name badge at all times.
● Assist with move-in/move-out transitions for residents.
● Perform all other duties as assigned by any member of management.
_ Language Requirement:_
This position requires the ability to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in
writing, in order to perform essential duties such as understanding care plans, documenting
resident services, following safety protocols, and interacting with residents, families, and team
members. Reasonable accommodation will be considered as required by law.
_ Qualifications & Requirements:_
● Completion of state-required medication training/testing for RCFE by company standards
● of 90% or above.
● Minimum age: 18 years (or as required by state regulations)
● TB clearance (per state requirement)
● First Aid and CPR Certification (per state requirement)
● Criminal background clearance and fingerprinting (LIC 508)
● Health Screening Report (LIC 503)
● Previous experience preferred but not required
● Willingness to work with elderly population
_ Universal Precautions:_
Exposure to blood and other bodily fluids is likely. All caregivers must follow infection control
procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), hand hygiene, and safe
handling/disposal of contaminated materials, in accordance with Title 22 and Community policy.
_ Physical Requirements:_
● Ability to lift residents minimum 35lbs.
● Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and perform repetitive tasks throughout the shift.
● Ability to assist residents with mobility, positioning, and transfers in accordance with
resident care plans and Community safety policies.
● Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 35 pounds independently; heavier lifting requires
assistance, team lifts, or mechanical equipment.
● Ability to use proper body mechanics and transfer equipment such as gait belts,
wheelchairs, and mechanical lifts as required.
● Ability to respond quickly and effectively to emergencies, including assisting with
evacuation procedures.
● Ability to perform housekeeping tasks, including making beds, handling laundry, and
maintaining clean and safe resident environments.
