Position Overview:
The Medical Technologist performs, in one or more areas of the Laboratory, routine and complex medical laboratory tests for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease, as ordered by the physician. The Medical Technologist exercises independent judgment, make decisions, troubleshoot complex problems, develops new tests, and provides leadership and direction to technicians and lab assistants.
An excellent preferred candidate has:
3 - 5 years of experience as a certified medical technologist
Current technologist-level certification from MT-ASCP, CLS-NCA, or equivalent
Ability to communicate critical information to laboratory managers, paraprofessionals, physicians, and allied health professionals
Critical laboratory analysis to process specimen samples, perform standard operating procedures (SOP’s) and verify quality control.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education Background
+ Baccalaureate degree in medical technology; or
+ Baccalaureate degree in science plus completion of an accredited or approved school of medical technology (for example, accredited by CAHEA); or
+ Current technologist-level certification with CLIA -recognized accrediting agency
Work Experience
+ Route 1: Medical Technologists with BSMT or relevant science degree and internship: No prior experience required.
+ Route 2: Medical Technologists without bachelor degrees: A combination of education and experience
New Grads?: Yes
Special Training/Skills
+ Excellent communication and customer service skills required.
+ Computer experience required.
+ Able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age and condition of the patients served on the assigned unit/department.
